Do you rent out your coach?

whelp...we signed on the dotted line and will take delivery of our very first class A motor home sometime next week. As I was sharing our good news with a co-worker, she said "Would you ever consider renting it out? If so, put us first on the list". Frankly, the thought of renting it out never crossed my mind, but the prospect of someone else helping "pay" for it is attractive!

My co-worker is also a good friend, who I trust would treat our property as if it were hers. So question to the group-do you have any experiences, good or bad, in renting your vehicle?

NO. I would absolutely NOT rent or lend our RV to relatives, friends or anyone..

There are too many things that can go wrong. If you rent it and it comes back with the transmission slipping, who pays for the repairs?

There are some forum members that have rented their units with success. I would say the vast majority will not rent/lend their RV.

Put together a list of campgrounds that also have cabins at their campground and give it to them.

I doubt that many on this forum would say "yes"....these folks are more passionate about their RVs. I sometimes wish I had rented mine out....so it would get used more, but I just don't trust anyone enough to make it ever worth while.

I recently had an accident with a co-workers car. I work on a tugboat, and we crew change almost anywhere on the east-coast, so depending on where, I will often drop my car off at our office, and take the co-workers car to him, if it's going to be more convenient for him.
Well, I had to drive up during one of the recent snow storms, and got into an accident with his car...totaling it. The only way this would work out as far as insurance was concerned, was for him to file a claim. I paid the deductible ($500) as well as the anticipated increase in his annual rate for the next 3 years ($900) because of the accident. Yes, it was a lot of money (plus $200 to have the car towed back to our office), but I feel as if I was fair with him, and hope that others will be equally as fair, if they are driving my car and something happens.
Point is, when someone else drives your vehicle....car or RV....you are giving them consent, so the burden of insurance falls on the owner.....and that could become very expensive, so NO, I won't rent out my RV, unless I was able to get special insurance...and that would probably make the added income a wash:(
So, the RV sits parked on the side of the house.

Besides, it would be just my luck, that when there was an emergency, and we needed the RV to get out of town, that it would be with someone else:s

I feel the same way. If you want them to continue to be your friend/family we don't loan stuff out.

No way. I also wonder what the insurance issues would be. It might be one thing if you allowed someone to drive and use it but it may be entirely different if its for money.

Won't be a good friend after they break five thousand worth of things, and won't take the credit for doing it.

You'll get mostly no's to this question but I would consider loaning my rig to the right friend. Most bikers won't loan their bike (motorcycle) to anyone but I have and have never regretted it. The friends that I would consider loaning to are able to replace it with cash if needed. I would never rent it like a business unless I had the correct insurance and licenses.
