Going to balloon fest in NM it will be our first time dry camping for more then over night. What i want to know is that when I take a shower I normally have to let the hot water run about 30 seconds before it even starts to get warm. It seems like it waste a lot of water. Any ideas other then take fewer showers or a cold one? Thanks for any help. Jim

I don't think running the shower till hot is a great big issue. I'm sure every coach is different but mine (I think) takes less than 30 seconds. I use this time to wet the interior or the shower to help rinse afterward. More importantly I have a water saver (shut off) valve in the shower. This way you can get wet, kill water & wash, then rinse. I swear I can shower on only a gallon or two of water. This method does NOT work for DW though.

I agree with Insta Hot!

Please explain to this tired old mechanic how an instahot water heater is going to move the water any faster from the heat source to the faucet? It is still going to take XXX seconds to move the cold water out of the lines and displace it with hot water.

I agree with Insta Hot! I'll be at the Hot Air Balloon Festivel, in Lake Havasu City, AZ. in January! Started out in 2010 with 10 balloons and they had over 80 balloons last year maybe over 100 this year. Good Luck

Catch the water and put it in one of those laundry soap dispensers with a push button lid. I keep one out in the sun for warm water hand washing. A pump type liquid hand soap dispenser duct taped to a magnet and hand towel make a nice clean up station. You could even wash your hair outside and probably save water.

Glad to hear that. We're also going to the second weekend. See you there, guys.

Insta hot is a tinny under 1.5 gallon water heater for sinks. Gives you hot water at the start and should last till the hot water can get to the sink.
Would not be good for dry camping or an RV.

jrlebaron,

Catch the water and:
- use it for cooking and/or dish washing
- use it for the dog to drink (no dog, no problem. A stray just wandered by and you can have her....)
- use it to flush the toilet (install a shut-off valve on your toilet water line)
- or just pour it back into the fresh water tank

Length of run from the hot water source is your problem. All you can do is let it run until its hot. From there on you need to practice the GI shower method.

Hi,

I catch the water in a bowl and use it for the next toilet flush.
