Anyone know of a company that offers a drive train only extended warranty?

Had an extended warranty (really a service contract) that I bought at the end of the initial 3 yr/36 month power train warranty. All I wanted was powertrain coverage, but did not find anything from FOMOCO or aftermarket suppliers that just covered the powertrain.

The 5 yr/60k mile service contract I bought cost about $600 a year, and I got my money's worth even with a $200 deductible. Replaced the fridge coil on a 1200 series Norcold, one roof AC, one leveling jack, and the 120v/12v converter.

After that contract expired, I started looking at Good Sams and other companies for a replacement, but everything was $1500-$2000 a year. I could not find a separate powertrain warranty. Ended up just covering repairs myself, and that has only been repairing the same jack again, and one slide motor.

I used them for my two extended warranties. No drive train only, must do the entire package at $4000 per year. No thanks.

I would put in a call to Wholesale warranties. I have had several warranties thru them and have alweays come out ahead. I would ask about total wrap, which I didn't get on mine because it was about 10K. Well, now that I've had to replace an A/C compressor, an alternator and the HEUI pump and injectors and seals , I would have just about broken even over a six month period. I do have coach coverage and that has paid for itself several times. I fact it paid for itself when the ice maker and fridge cooling coils went out on our Dometic side by side fridge.

Extended warranty companies (like casinos) are in business to MAKE money. If they continually pay out more than they take in, they won't be around for long.

If you buy an extended warranty, make sure you read and understand EVERY word of the contract. Chances are you'll spend more on the coverage than they pay out, but, hey, if it gives you piece of mind, go for it.

I've heard this so much, but more so with aggravation of being approved and/or covered, getting an appt., taking it somewhere for the work and them keeping it forever.
With the 6 months of our present ownership, I've personally fixed, hired out, modified and have otherwise spent many hours on it, but can't even think of one thing that might qualify under a warranty. Besides that, don't these things have a deductible as well and that alone would kill it for most things?
Also and if things go as I feel they will, this should be the extent of it for awhile, given any unforeseen circumstances and what has usually been the case throughout my vehicle buying career.

Thanks for the replies. I was just curious as my investigations into this resulted in no. My two previous warranties more than payed for themselves but now the cost is rediculous. I always have a contingency fund.

Nope, but IMO, the best warranty going, is for having one of your own and by putting the premiums into a bank account. You can also continue to do so, after the normal 3 to 5 yrs are up, as well.
Who knows, it might even turn itself into a nest egg of sorts.

Don't know of one with drive train only. But if it a concern, start putting the money you were willing to spend on the premiums into a savings account. A least you'll start saving for it IF it ever happens.

Freightliner offers extended warranty on their chassis. I'm sure Spartan does too.

I've often wondered about this exact same thing and have asked a bit with no luck. It seems all the big warranty companies want to sell coverage for an entire coach.

In looking at a class A someday and potentially a diesel pusher it would be nice to find a warranty that only covers big stuff. I'm fine assuming risk up to a point but would love to find the "major medical" type plan. Say a slide out fails and even costs a couple thousand dollars - okay I can handle that. I blow a head gasket on my Cummins (I know it's VERY rare) and we're looking at some serious $$$. Likely well north of 10K.

Great question.... I'm still just window shopping so I haven't researched much.
