Fridge Door Flying Open at High Speed - Sauce Everywhere

So there is always that one corner that no matter how slow I am rolling, the fridge doors fling open. Last time the icemaker bucket came flying out and apparently a container of leftover spaghetti sauce flopped out. I say "apparently" because I was driving and my Lovely Bride had to clean up the mess, again. Because of the configuration of the doors and the fact that they "had to" hinge on the left side (or the feng shui of the kitchen would be off balance or something) the traditional aftermarket door latches would not work, so off to the workshop I went, and I had to work quickly because we are back on the road tomorrow.

I happened to have a beautiful chunk of cherry in the shop and a dowel and a little piece of walnut for a wall mounted stowable door stop.

When we are parked it folds flat to the wall, and when on the road it swings 90 degrees to catch both doors.

Thought some may find this useful, let me know if you have a question or two. Happy Turkey Day Gobble Gobble!!

Ours has the coolest lock, I think its from the factory. It is spring loaded and you pull it out and rotate it up for camping and down for travel or storage.

I use an excel spreadsheet that we go over before start up. Latching fridge is on the list.

It isn't speed that dumps stuff in the fridge over, it's the twists and turns, even at low speeds.

I'm not sure you told us what kind of fridge you have. Both our Norcold and now the Dometic work just fine.

Nice design.. My Fridge positively latches though I need to make sure when I drive.

But reading the subject line my first reaction was "You got Sauced"

I used to have a freezer door that did not seal well, I take that back it did seal well (Air tight) but it would not hold and easily came open (magnetic seal) I ended up getting the plastic latch from Camping world and installing.. not nearly as good looking as your job, but it worked well.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Nice job! And perfect for your fridge installation. I used a couple of modified window latches to secure our residential fridge doors. I coated one side of the flip up handles with bright red nail polish so we can tell at a glance when they're in the travel position.

I need one. Spilled a quart of Olive oil in mine. Will never clean it all up.

Sure beats the heck out of a couple of bungee cords!!

Nice job.

Our fridge doors lock IF properly closed.
One day when getting ready to make left turn GF looked at me with puzzled eyes and stated "Don't think I checked fridges doors!"

So I made the turn THEN pulled over.
As we walked back to 5vr we could smell vinegar....uh oh
Opened door and there were dill pickles, jalapenos plus the juices everywhere.
Fortunately only in kitchen area with linoleum

After that....she checks then I check. Outside its reversed....I check then she checks.

But I do like your innovative design and use of that wood block.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Ours has a auto lock, works very well. EXCEPT...

The lower RH door was installed just a wee bit low, needed about a 3/32-1/8" shim. Without that the door did open and a brand new, FULL UNOPENED gallon jug of Sweet Tea did a very short aerobatic display and crashed to the floor upon which it ceased to be a closed container. One Gallon of Sweet Tea! Wiped, mopped, wiped and did it again.

Fixed now, Being a four door I don't think the OP's solution will work, but I am contemplating some form of suspenders add-on.
