Highway 1 in Ca. Leggett to Jenner.

Getting ready to run from Leggett Ca. on 101 to 1 down to Jenner and cut over to Calistoga on Ca. 116.

Have done much of this route many years ago but cannot recall the time it took. If someone has a timeline it would be helpful.

Please do not reply to try to discourage me from taking Highway 1 as I am not scared of it.

Any info on Ca. 116 would be helpful. Will be traveling in 35 foot DP towing a car.

Thank You in advance.

Pogoil.

Thanks for all the replies. It has been many years since I have traveled that stretch. Ocean Cove is on my radar if I can get in as they do not take reservations.

Seems many parks along that stretch get poor reviews in RV park reviews.
Hoping to stop along the way but prepared to drive the long haul if needed. My wife has a couple reservations at the start and end. Will hope for the best in between. We will stop early in hopes of getting in some where in the middle of the run.

Leaving Oregon coast and making a 10 day run of this route and returning via HWY 101 to Oregon.

The FMC Owners Club had a rally in Ocean Cove in 2011. Here is a link to a picture I took of the group from the nexp point north of the park. There aren't any designated spaces. You just find a spot that you like and park there. We took over the bluff area. There is much more area to the left of this picture. Ocean Cove campground To see more when at that picture, click on "Return to album thumbnails" above the picture and there are 7 pages of pictures. We were there in early October.

Go through Santa Rosa, on 101 then north 3 miles to River Rd. Head west from there and follow the Russian River to Jenner. That gets you to HiWay 1 and North. Lots of coast claiming, turns, but take it slow. Stop at Ft Ross and soak in some Russian culture.

Yes, by all means make the Fort Ross stop. Earliest settlement in Northern California. Well worth it.

So you peaked my interest about Ocean Cove. I called and they said this time of year during the weekend, there's still openings....and no problem during the week. I have a 32 ft gasser with a toad. How's the drive up hiway 1? I live in Modesto and will be taking Hiway 12 over to 101. What's the best route to get from 101 over to hiway 1 and then up to Ocean Cove. Looks like a pretty place, Might take a day trip and drive up to Point Arena. Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Brian

If you want to spend a night right on the coast, stop at Ocean Cove RV park north of Jenner. You are right on the bluff with a great view of the ocean. Can walk down to the beach if desired. It's dry camping.

I have spent a lot of time in the Russian River area and you will do fine on Hwy 116, particularly compared to the workout you're going to get on Hwy 1.

You actually should only take Hwy 116 to Forestville, then take:

Mirabel Rd north to
River Rd east to
Mark West Springs Rd (near Santa Rosa) to
Hwy 128 south to
Calistoga

It's 139 miles from Legget to Jenner via Hwy 1. Then if you pick up Hwy 116 at Jenner, Hwy 116 cuts way south to 101. How were you planning to get to Calistoga from there?

Long time! But it's a fun drive. Supercub's numbers are a little off. Google maps shows 181 miles for that trip. It's been a while since I've been on that section of road, but I'm going to guess an easy 7 to 8 hours of actual driving time not counting stops to enjoy the scenery. I don't think I've even been on 116 from Highway 1, but from Google Earth it looks more windy and narrow than Highway 1.

You want the time line in Years or Days? 😉

Actually according to Map quest, it is 139.52 miles

3 hrs 39 mins / 3 hrs 57 mins
I think tha equates to about 35mph........so I would say it would take you 4-5 hours ....maybe, plus stops, if there's anywhere to stop. Should be a pretty drive.

PS: sorry, this is from Leggett to Jenner on Hiway 1
