Highway 12 between Yakima and I5

We are looking at travelling from the Oroville Border to Albany. We want to stop in Woodland Washington and would like to try highway 12 (want to avoid Seatle) How is highway 12 for 40 foot class A's and a toad. Any other comments on alternate drive

Good grade both sides so have the exaust brake ready and second or third gear. And watch for elk and deer, several deer and three herds of elk on our way home from fishing east side below Rimrock lake. Was 63' long with DP and toad on trailer no problem. Just watch a couple curves, they are well marked. Real purdy mountain drive. If you want to spend the night on the east or west side there are several nice CGs. Hause creek was closed this past week but was to open again soon.

After you leave Woodland head north on I-5 and take the mile post #68 exit. You will be exiting to the right and stay right onto the White Pass Hwy. #12. Very nice view up on top of White Pass during daylight hours of the Lake and as your starting down the Dam. You will follow the Naches River all the way down. When you get into Yakima if you like Hamburgers? I highly suggest Miners. Plenty of room for a RV and same people that own Miners are still alive and have been in that spot since 1949!

Generally speaking you are correct though.

It is a twisty, steep road, but it is maintained. We have lots of those out here in the west. You just have to drive it as what it is. Just came down a couple of 7% grades in the last several days and ones with the 25 mph curves. Still, they are good roads that are well maintained. I got down to first gear to get adequate engine braking a couple of times.

My experience has been...if it's a State Highway, it's maintained and driveable. We've found this to be true nationwide. County roads are a different animal, but State Hwys adhere to a higher standard. I would not hesitate to take my rig on any State Hwy...and yes, we've taken 12 several times......Dennis.

Also my friends with the Montana just went via Chinook Pass to Puyallup

A great drive. Did it in a 36'. There will be some very slow curves and the navigator will be looking straight down at times. Great view.

You can also avoid Seattle by taking Hwy 18, just N. of Tacoma, to I90. It is a little congested.

I just went east bound on that route. No problem and has a lot of beautiful scenery.

We just came across from Yakima to the west side three days ago. Construction and one way traffic in two washout areas but no big problem. 18 wheelers use that route on a regular basis too. You should have no problem.

If snack or meal timing is right, stop at Spiffey's, on the left just before the US 12/I-5 interchange, for a meal and a piece of pie!

We traveled it many times with a 32' plus load and our buddy has biggest Montana 5h wheel with Ford 350. Nary a problem!
