On the Cheap in Florida

Hello Everyone: We have always spent our winters in Arizona and California but this winter we will be going to Florida. Unfortunately, we are on a very tight budget this coming winter (Nov. to April) and was wondering if anyone had suggestions of RV parks, county parks, fairgrounds with rv camping on the cheap 🙂

Thanks, Vikki

Here's a few. They aren't cheap as in free but they're far less expensive than the resorts.

Not in Florida, but New Mexico State Parks have a yearly non-resident pass for any park up to three weeks in one park, for $225 a year. That includes water. Electric is an additional $4 per day.

If you were to use the electric everyday, you monthly expense would be $138. You can't beat it. New Mexico has wonderful campgrounds.

On the cheap in Florida? I've stayed at the Walmart Supercenter / Sam's directly across from Universal Studios in Orlando, FL for 5-days the last time in Orlando. Lowe's & Home Depot Home Improvement Centers parking lots, Marriot Courtyards and truckstops too when in Florida. Cracker Barrels are great too for overnighting.

COE parks have a 14 day limit. We stayed at the one in St. Lucie and it was wonderful. Right on the water. I fished from our site....Dennis

If you are looking to boondock you might want to check out Florida Water Management that have 5 areas referenced as groups, primitive camping and equestrian.

Time of year you are going you will likely want to be south of Tampa for more acceptable temperatures, although we've been down in Sarasota/Fort Myers freezing our tushes off in April some years so .......

For CG's in the deep South of Fla during Jan to Mar, you might want to make reservations as the popularity the past few years has grown exponentially.

It would help if you could define "cheap" since cheap is relative. If you don't care about fancy and want peace and quiet, try River Lodge RV in Inglis FL on US Hwy 19. They have back in sites including water, sewer, electric, wi-fi and 70 channels of cable for $500 per month (current rates). Shady grassy sites. Read reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com under Florida> Inglis.
We like Williston Crossing RV Resort in Williston FL. They have a few grassy back in sites for $627 per month including electric (current rates). Their paved sites are $627 per month but you pay your own electric. Nice resort with all amenities. Small town location. During the winter in Florida it's difficult to find spots that are cheap.
Also try Sumter Oaks Escapees park in Bushnell, FL. https://www.escapees.com/parking/rainbow-parks/bushnell-florida/sumter-oaks-rates

When you say on the cheap I take that as shooting for free but mixing in a night here or there to dump, fill, laundry or do you need hook ups all the time? We were cruising along for free last year when all of a sudden we had to spend $9.50 for a Louisiana wildlife pass for my wife. We also stayed at one $32.00 campground on the way home. We had a nightly cost of $1.38

No, I cant tell you may favorite in Fl right now.

AS said above try volunteering. Tonto national forest in Arizona is always short of volunteers specially in winter. You are CANADIAN so I do not know if you can volunteer. But 20-30 hours per week will get you a site with Water, Electric and sewer.

Is Florida a requirement? Lot of COE campgrounds in the south need volunteers, and will exchange a full-hookup campsite for a few hours work. Mid-Alabama comes to mind.
