Our trip from H###

It's been a LONG two weeks that have extended into almost 3.
Quick trip up north to Washington to help MIL. No problem...
So far..
1. Everyone's been sick - really sick including the dog.
2. Tow jeep dead battery miles away from town. No jumper cables of course.
3. Limped off the coast inland and thought huge screaming noise was simply a fan belt AC/Compressor. Took off fan belt and thought it was sounding better and we could limp forward to repair. Oh, the thoughts of the non-mechanical. Huge exhaust manifold leak.
4. Shut engine off on busy I-5 where little to no shoulder only 40 miles from scheduled repair place. Could reach out and touch passing trucks.
5. Tow truck required. Enough said.
6. Exhaust manifold replaced. Told the "shut engine" thing was operator error (throttle error) and couldn't reproduce.
7. Left repair place after three days. Within 100 miles more "stop engine" bells, alarms... check transmission.. on and off warnings and bells. Pull over fix code.. back within 5 miles. All the way to Grants Pass.
8. Limped to friends house. No error codes luckily.
9. Had Cummins mobile repair come to us to get codes. Believe throttle sensor issue. Electronics not talking. Transmission not getting right information and shutting down the entire engine.
10. Will hear today how much and when part can be received.
11. Will probably require a few more days imposing on our friends and we're missing a few important things. Plus, our DD now has pneumonia.

Yep... We are waiting for part, maybe Monday. Good friends are putting up with us and we have a very nice place to park with enough power to keep the batteries up.
The repair place wanted us to tow it in or drive it... but convinced them to send out a tech to fix it since it's pretty easy to get to.
Driving would have been exciting with needing to pull off the interstate every five miles or so to reset the "stop engine." And there's not always alot of room to do that. Didn't want to be towed again...
So, they are indeed sending a guy out.. lucky for us he lives nearby.
Fingers crossed that this sensor will take care of the issue.

We're up to little over $2k in repairs. Thankfully, the extended warranty will take care of some of it.

Have you ever fallen through a septic tank with a 40'? We had to build a road under us with RR ties to get us out. Yep, things happen but when you have some good days the bad ones are 'almost' laughable!

Had to get towed into Grants Pass several years ago and went to Bridgeview Rv repair after the flex exhaust pipe burned through and tried to burn up the back of the coach. I was a bit luckier than you as I was able to pull off at an off ramp across the 5 from the American Pie co. Took several days of talking to them about getting it fixed before the DW went in and said that we had to get back on the road. A couple of hours later it was fixed we were in an RV park for the night. Why is it that all of these RV repair places think that an rv owner has all the time in the world and all the money.

You got me beat. My couple week trip. My slide went out once and needed to be cranked in by hand and still not working. Toilet leaked from gasket inside toilet. Caulked the******out of it ordered new gasket and now have to remove all the caulk. Cable from battery to starter on jeep broke off. Check engine light was on in jeep for two straight weeks. Got home and now it's off. Fridge light bulb burnt out. Leaking inner dual valve stem. It was a great trip though.

Stuff happens and unfortunately all on the same trip. The only thing that you could have prepared for were the missing jumper cables. :B

have experienced those shut engine bells and alarm--enough to scare you to death--which they are designed to do and usually not for simple fixes. our experience resulted in my hubby looking for work again. it could be worse--i'm sitting in phoenix (100 degrees already) waiting for my DH (new truck driver) to make it home safely.

Sorry! I-5 is atrocious with trucks, all piled in right lane because of the 55mph restriction. Glad you're safe!

Bummer. We just got back from 6 days and both have sore throats! Was nice to get away though.

As the song says "the darkest hour is just before dawn." The older I get the more I realize this is just how life in general goes. I try and look at these problems as a learning experience. Each trip I learn something new.
