Rude Campers

We stayed at rainbow Springs State Park in Florida for a week from December 20th to 27th.

On the 27th Saturday we began to disconnect and put away some things prior to leaving before the 1 pm checkout time.

A man from 3 sites down came by our site and asked if we were leaving soon as he was reserving our site. I said yes, but not for a while(this was at 1030 am.

A bit later the work camper came by and said for us to stay till 12:55 before leaving as the man was very pushy towards her and the Ranger in the office.

We walked to the dumpsters, took the trash and then took a walk down to the river and back. I put the dogs in the Rv and walked up to the ranger Office to check on a refund I had coming.

Less than 2 minutes later in comes Mr. Rude and he just stands there listening to myself and the Ranger talk about the refund I had due.

He never spoke but was right next to me. I didn't say anything nor did the Ranger. I then told the ranger we would be leaving in a bit( it was 1230 then)...as I left I told the Ranger thanks for the help and said to Mr Rude, We are leaving soon , so you had better hurry and get back to your site so you can get over on mine. Never said a word back.

He had been standing at his RV for 2 hours looking our way like we were gonna rush off for him....not gonna happen!

Funny story, I can relate ...

We were at Port St. Joe State Park South of Panama City over Christmas week. We planned to pull out Dec 26, check out time 11:00 am. All was going well, when the next camper over started asking questions, quite obvious anxious for us to get out. Don't know why though. Anyway, all was going well. Everything right on target. We pulled off the site at 10:55, just in time. Got to the dump station for final preparations and then noticed the clock on the dash of the truck ... it was really 9:55 local time! Indiana is on Central time, Florida is on Eastern time! We were actually 1 hour and 5 minutes ahead of schedule! Still don't know what that guys problem was though.

The other camper may have been unpleasant, but the rangers' actions were unprofessional. Getting involved by staying on later than planned was not kind, either; although you were within your rights to stay until checkout time, you were participating in a scheme to yank the guy's chain. A poor showing by all concerned.

Have you thought about the possibility that you may have been dealing with a nutcase? How would you feel now if your purposeful lingering had pushed him over the edge and he had 'gone postal'? Egging someone on because you 'think he deserves it' can be risky. (I admit I've been there, done that, and hope to act more wisely next time.)

Unfortunately, you will find bone-heads like that all over the planet. Something went awry with the gene pool. But, since you can't get away from them, you just have to deal with them and the situation as best you can. I've said numerous times on here. I call it the loss of the THREE Cs. Common Sense, Common Courtesy and, Common Decency.

So many seem to lack one, two or all three. Oh well, nothing anyone can do but, try and enjoy why you're out there, having fun and RVing.

Happened to me (family) some years ago at one of the more popular "resorts" in the Delaware Water gap....our last day, with 2 hours to go before checkout...almost all packed up, having lunch at our campsite, this couple comes in out of nowhere and makes a big disturbance. Angry, walked up to the office and demanded to know why they were let in FOUR hours before check-in time...and disturbing our campsite, the office lady told me she was sorry, but they were giving HER a hard time so she let them in. Pass the buck.

Sorry you found his actions as rude but I fail to see what he did that was wrong. One might even wonder about your own actions of staying longer than you'd planned for seemingly petty reasons. I've usually found it better to not become involved in other people's disputes, especially when you're only hearing one side of the story. I'd rather not listen to either side and form opinions based on my own experience.

Or at least talked about it!
Could have told the guy you had decided to stay another week and you were going to go wash the rv and be back in a couple of hours now that you had already paid the ranger for the spot....

Seems like this is when things went bad- doesn't sound like there was a real problem until that person enlisted you in their "dispute".

Passive aggression. These guys make themselves so unhappy as they fixate on stuff like this. Wow. They make everybody miserable they deal with. It's all about the me, about the me, no one else,...
