We have been full time now for about 5 months and there are a couple of things that I need to ask questions about...

#1. When we are hooked up to power in RV parks there are no issues anywhere with any of the elecrical outlets.

When we are boondocking, however, neither of the 2 electrical outlets will work in the bedroom. Lights work and everything but not the outlets. I have to run an extension cord from the bathroom outlet to run my CPAP machine. Not a real issue but a little anoying.

Any ideas?

#2. We have 2 rooftop Dometic Duo-Therm air conditioner/heat pump units. The one in the living are works great. The one in the bedroom is the problem. When it starts out (and this is going to be hard to describe) it shoulds like it is having an issue getting up to speed on the fan. It almost sounds like the belt (or something) might slip a little then finally get going. Of course - it wakes us everytime it starts up. Have to have it though down here on the Texas coast right now.

I do not have an instruction manual for the units but they are both model #630035.331. I tried to find one online but no luck.

Any ideas on this one? Does anyone have any idea what maintenance these need to have done on them other than the filters cleaned?

Now the thanks!

We started having a bad sewer gas smell and - as usual - one trip through the search on this forum board yielded the answer - dry pee traps! We had been on the corn cob roads that are in the South Louisiana area and the one in the shower was dry. From now on every time we move one if the first things to do after setting up in a new area - water down all drains - including the shower!

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer my (and everyones) questions!

No bedroom power from inverter is common
Two many people would plug an electric heater into it and wake up to dead batteries and a cold bedroom

Entertainment, bathroom and maybe some kitchen outlets
Are the common wiring practice for the inverter, especially where slides are concerned
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Some coaches have more than one GFI outlet so you may have one that is tripped that feeds the bedroom. Sometimes these GFI's are well hidden. They may be in the basement or on the side of a bath cabinet or even the side of a bedroom cabinet.
Also look at your inverter and see if ONE of the circuit breakers has tripped. My inverter has two outputs and I can lose power on some of my outlets but not all of them if one trips. These circuit breakers are located right on the inverter itself and are before your circuit breakers in your main electrical panel.
The AC problem might be a bearing that is starting to fail in the fan.

We have heat pumps also, but generally do not use them due to noise esp at night. We use electric space heaters when plugged in. Nice and quiet, cheap to replace and no wear on heat pump! We use up to 3: One in the front, one in the back circuit, and one plugged into the microwave/convection oven receptacle. Can heat 41' w/4 slides out down to ~20 deg (inc. 4000w wet bay heater)

Neither of our HRs powered the bedroom plugs except for the TV plug, so it sounds "normal" to me.

A/Cs have a hard start capacitor to help with starting. Yours might need to be replaced. Check the voltage right at the A/C as it starts as it could be a low voltage problem.

Ok - sorry I should have been a little more specific!

We have an inverter on our coach. it's a 2007 HR 38.5' w/4 slides.

It just seems that these 2 are the only ones that won't work.

Thanks for the owners manual on the AC/HP!

As for the CPAP - haven't checked into it but will. Thanks!

And yes - we use the shower! The road was so bad that we were on for about 75 miles it actually bounced all of the water out of the trap in one trip.

Did I miss the year make and model of your rig?
That info can be helpful.

Our Monaco has a 2000 watt inverter, and "almost" all the outlets are powered by it and work even when the rig is not plugged in.

Oddly, the 2 outlets near the head of the bed (in a slide) are not powered by the inverter and are dead unless we are plugged in or running the genny.
Outlets in the opposite slide, where the TV is, work just fine.

#1 can you clarify are you saying no power when you are on generator, or inverter -if you have one-, or either way?

#2 could be low voltage, or maybe a sticky bearing. No way to diagnose without hands on testing. Are you sure it is the motor coming slowly up to speed, or could it be different components starting in stages? In our coach the fan starts first on the heat pumps and then a few seconds later the compressor starts. I do not know if this is a function of the Dometic unit or if it's the energy management system (separately installed option on ours) that provides that feature.

I'm surprised you have power to the box in the bathroom - usually when you are powered up by battery the wall units do not work unless you have an inverter!

For the CPAP why not get a 12 volt CPAP if yours is not one in DISGUISE.
There are a bunch of Duo-Therm manuals at

Hi,

It sounds as if your rv is equipped with an inverter, but it is wired in such a manner as to not power all the outlets. It is becoming more common for RV's to have an inverter.

It would be possible to move the outlet you need to the same circuit as the bathroom--but it might also mean having too many outlets on one breaker. Proceed with care.

It is probably better to have a separate thread for each question.
Regards, Don
