Shop Labor Rate. Survey.

The Service segment in the RV Industry is vital to the satisfaction of the RV customer. Please answer yes or no to this question; I'm very curious...

If there was an RV Service facility in your area, that scored 8-10 on the level of service and had immediate service openings would you do business there if their labor rate was $190.00 per hour? Yes or no please. Thank you in advance. Tommy

Local dealer here is just over $100/hr. excellent work, + free advice. 2 local shops well under that cost/hr, for RV coach repair and body work. Dealer replaced fridge, the shops have repaired awning spring and repainted toad and coach compartment doors.
I've done all the routine maintenance on both my gas and diesel engines and the motorhomes. Not complicated, just turning wrenches.

Doubling the cost to get satisfactory work may be the wave of the future, but we ain't there yet...

Here's another answer. Before I'd pay some shop $110.00 or $160.00 an hour I think abut just getting the manuals and learn how to fix it myself, which I do anyway.

Scores better than "8 out of 10" on what parameters? "Level of service" doesn't mean much without knowing what it's based on.

Dutch, come on. You didn't even give a yes or no. AND don't complicate level of service. We all know when we are happy with service. Parameters? ALL OF THEM. Tommy

Ok, NO, NO, NO!!! I would never take my work to a shop that claims to be worth an ultra high price based on some unknown criteria by some unknown rating service.

Thank you for your replies. Ofcourse this is very informal. When replying remember this 190 per hour is charged by a facility that scores better than 8 out of 10. So, perhaps if they were more efficient the total bill might be less. 😉

That is a "RIDICULOUS" cost per hour. In Ft. Worth (very near you, they charge $119.00 which is also entirely to much. Remember, RV's are not a "Rolls Royce" level of quality which requires certified technicians.

I was in Forest City, IA at the Winnebago factory for service in June. Service at the Winnebago factory is $110 an hour.

My local truck shop charge me $65 and hour to service my chassis.

I've been fortunate enough to find two outstanding service facilities that charge $95/hr and $115/hr. I use each one for specific repairs based on their areas of expertise and proximity (46 miles rtrip vs 107 miles rtrip).

Shop can rate a 10 and charge less than $100/hr and I still would choke.

Majority of items in an RV can be fixed with inexpensive tools and basic understanding of mechanics and electrical systems....as I have proven many, many times over the past 30 yrs. of doing my own repairs.

$190/hr......preposterous

I have a shop in my area that I can get in to almost any time and the shop rate varies from as low as $65 to as high as $125. The reason why the shop labor rate changes is because they do not put their top mechanic on a job that only requires an apprentice. For a lube job or tire balance, you get the lower priced mechanic. For basic mechanical work, you may get someone in the mid-range. For a complicated problem, that will need an expert's diagnosis, then you pay top dollar. After the diagnosis is made, the labor rate may change if it is a mundane job to repair.
This shop is always packed and the customers know they will be treated fair. Personally I would avoid any shop that charges their customers top dollar, even if it is the new guy or the old pro that works on your rig.
