Toilet not holding water

The bowl won't hold water, I assume the seal needs to be changed. It's a Sealand Toilet. How do you change the seal? Thanks

The OP asked about how to change the seal. I need to do that also, but nobody has answered how to do it.

Do you have to take the toilet apart, or can one just pry out the old seal (with the slide valve held open) and slip the new seal in?

I had a toilet that would not hold water in my last RV. I never had a smell so I did not worry about it.

Silicon grease works to help the seal close if it is hanging up. Works very well.

I would try putting olive oil on seal for a few days. Sure works great for us. No seal issues in many years and over 100,000 miles.

I've gotten several extra years out of our toilet seal by pouring some ATF into the bowel and letting it sit.

Before resorting to the task of removing the toilet and replacing the seal try this just for the cheap and fun of it.
Pour some vinegar into the toilet and let it sit. Of course if its leaking bad, you waited too long but keep adding some vinegar to it and be prepared for some great results.
I used to replace my seal about once a year (fulltiming). Since I use the vinegar application, I haven't had to do so in the last four years, give or take a few months either way.

Call Sealand Customer Service. They are very helpful if you decide to tackle changing out the seal.

Just bend an old butter knife about an inch from end at a 90 degree angle. Great for cleaning out seal and won't cut it. then keep it wet with dawn, veg oil, even water, but will evaporate.

My Sealand toity came with one of those disposable womens finger nail files. It instructed the owner to use it to clean the underside of the seal if it started leaking. It's worked for me a couple of times but I also use some toilet cleaning chemicals to help the process.

Try removing debris. Take a brush or hanger and get in there around the seal cleaning out any leavings. You can also try putting some Vaseline on there to see if that helps with the seal.

Our coach came with two of those stick cleaners. I use them about once a year and all is well.

I've searched to find a place that sells those so I could post a link to them but haven't had any luck yet.

I always keep water in my bowls, we have two toilets, with a touch of Dawn soap to keep the seals wet.

Yep, changing the seal will probably fix the problem. But, after the first time I changed the seal and the problem came back, I just started using a regular toilet bowl brush. Just open the valve and clean thoroughly around the edges. Works for months at a time for me.
