Tow dolly discussion--where???

Looked under the three towing forums and found one with tow dolly in it, clicked on tow dolly and found but one post. There has to be more discussions about tow dollies than that. Where do I go for that. Looking for comparison discussion of available tow dollies. What am I doing wrong. Thanks

We found a Roadmaster in our area that was used. It was a good buy and from my rough math less than half the cost of equipping one vehicle for 4 down towing. We make choices about which car to take based on where we are headed and have used the dolly under each. I like the flexibility of being able to load any Front Wheel Drive vehicle within the weight limits and away we go. On the road it tracks great and is a good tow load.

I bought a Roadmaster tow dolly, brake controller and controller installation from Camping World several years and two RV's ago to tow our '07 Focus. No problems and if I didn't have a rear view camera I would not know it was behind me. Only maintenance, I grease the hubs occasionally. Have had to replace tires once due more to Nevada sun damage than wear. I did replaced the straps recently for the two hook fixed ladder type similar to what U-Haul uses and was one of the smarter things I've done. Just a note for comparison, I also have a heavy duty two axle trailer I use when hauling the '65 Mustang and I can tell you from experience that I'd much rather tow the dolly than the trailer plus it's easier to store when arriving at location.

I used a Master Tow dolly for about 10 years quite successfully and now since we have retired and have no need to pull a variety of vehicles have gone to towing four down of my Silverado 4x4 truck.

The only glitch I found with the dolly was that I needed to keep the tire pressure pretty high to keep the tires wearing right. Can't say if that is a universal thing or was just my particular dolly. ?? Since I had a local dealer for Master Tow and the pricing was good I didn't look at a lot of alternatives, but over the years I often wanted to take our golf cart and wished for a dolly that would allow that. Now we just load it in the truck and go down the road looking a little like the "Beverly Hillbillies".

Thanks. Two vehicles to tow, infrequently, and after researching toad 4 down believe for our purposes and cost consideration a proper tow dolly would be the way to go. Now to find the "best" one considering lack of brake controller on the MH and cost consideration. The Acme one seems interesting. Will go to your links and see what I can find. Thanks

I too have multiple "toads" and also multiple Rvs so the tow dolly was a lower cost and more flexible solution. IMHOP all toad systems are a pain in the butt. None are cheap. The dolly has more variety of uses (I have towed friends vehicles and my 8' Zodiac with it and tows great. Don't even know its back there unless I look in the camera. I happened to like Master Tow and bought mine new and its been trouble free but there are other good brands too. Go with surge breaks and avoid brake controls. Also install a flip up tongue jack/wheel like those used on boat trailers. Cheap and makes moving or hitching a breeze.
Order is illusion. Chaos is reality. But right or wrong I'm still the captain. 🙂

I've pulled my Vibe for over 46,500 miles with a Demco Kar Kaddy SS dolly and have been very well pleased. They’re heavily galvanized (never a rust or paint problem), have surge brakes (no need for controller), dolly wheel pivot (like a car), Wheel plates fold up and tongue folds back (reduces storage space by almost 50%) and Demco has a very good customer service reputation. Some of the dolly renting agencies use them because they are so worry free and dependable.

Don’t let the “4 down” naysayers scare you away. It only takes about 5 minutes longer to load & unload, if you strap the toad down correctly you’ll never have a problem with loose straps, only once have I ever had to store the dolly off site and if you don’t have bad knees strapping on & off is easy.

They are a little more expensive but Google it for price as they seldom sell for suggested retail & occasionally you’ll find a used one available.

Perhaps looking for 'tow dolly' instead of 'dolly.'..? The forum calls it Dinghy towing, although nobody actually calls it that.

Probably not a big volume discussion. But since you opened it here, you'll get a bunch of: "you don't want a tow dolly, because"
and a tow hitch is the only way to go,
And you can't do it that ways.
