What slide design do you prefer

I was reading a post on here regarding a bedroom slide. I've considered getting a coach with a bedroom slide and am curious about something. For those of you that have a single bedroom slide, which do you think is better and why? The two designs I'm comparing are with the slide containing a closet and the bed going from front to back OR the bed in the slide (sideways) and the closet elsewhere. Most seem to have the closet at the very rear of the coach with the bed in front of it.

Here's a couple of picture diagrams that I'm talking about. It's not about the rest of the coach I'm just showing the design I'm talking about.

Sideways bed

Slide-out closet.

It's hard to beat the floor plan of an Winny/Itasca 35U. Both the bed and the large closet extend on the curb side (handy if parking on a street). This leaves a big area for movement and dressing.

My DW was adamantly against the "tight" confines of a MH until she saw this one.

Here's a link to a Winny brochure that you can find the floor plan on (I couldn't copy/paste it).

I have the bed in the slide and the closet is in the back. With the slide closed, you need to crawl over the bed to get to the closet but the closet is accessible. I have a door in the floor of the closet for access to the engine which would be an issue with the bed in the back.

With the bed in the back, it is easier to use the bed without taking the slide out. You would need to crawl over the bed to get to the closet in the slide. Hopefully, part of the closet would be accessible with the slide in.

I have the bed slide with two windows. the closet slide does not have windows so that means now cross breeze. I have a Foretravel so different brands my do it differently.

I didn't even pay attention to the m/h brand when I downloaded the pic. I haven't seen either of these two units. I just picked a couple of pictures that depicted the configuration of the two slides that I was curious about.

Yes, they were pics from PPL and I do want another D/P. My access panel is under the bed now and I have to take the air shocks loose and prop the bed up high with a stick to get good access to the engine but it's not really that hard. I can reach normal items without propping the bed up. I just do that when I need to minor engine work, i.e.; alternator, belts, adjust valves, etc, etc, etc.

Access to the closet and getting around the bed would be concerns so I would have to check on that. My windows are blacked out now so that wouldn't concern me.

Thanks for your input.

We've heard that if the closet is in the slide and/or drawers, that things can mildew. Slides are cold and if it's closed up by a closet or drawers there's no air circulation.

We have the bed in the slide with two windows on either side and plenty of room to walk around and two end tables. We soon discovered we don't like the two windows either.

On full moon nights or in the mornings, too much light enters onto our faces. We like a dark room. We have since added the silver insulating material in each window and keep the shades lowered all the time. We never use those windows We also have a large window at the foot of the bed which lets in plenty of air and we have a Fantastic fan in the bedroom also so when that's on the window air blows over us nicely. It works for us.

I had two with no slide. It was nice when stopping overnight for a quick rest. My last two have slides. They have much more storage than the slide less and you can have more room on the sides to accommodate a king bed. With the end to end bed you are stuck with the 8.5 width. Mine 2015 35G Winnebago Sightseer has the power bed which I like for a variety of reasons and includes a lot of space when in upright. It is also nice for reading or watching TV. We use it when parked and not able to use levelers and that helps. We did have times with the end to end where we reversed the sleeping with head at foot. Never had the slide out closet. The Forza has it and it is a really neat bedroom.

We personally don't like slides in the bedroom. After looking at hundreds of motorhomes one thing I would never get would be the headboard of the bed in the slide. We prefer the brightness and the air flow with two large windows.

I would never get the set up we have now, again. Bed is sideways with the head of the bed in the slide. Closets at the foot of the bed are virtually inaccessible with the slide retracted.

The floor plan drawings shown in the links are concept drawings and do not represent actual dimensions of any particular RV make or model.

With that said, I prefer the side to side bed as I've never seen one that prevented access to drawers and doors within the bedroom with the slide closed or open. JMPO

One design I like, regardless of location, was a pitched roof on the slide. I've seen this on one make of 5th wheel.

I just bought a Foretravel, no slide in the bedroom. In checking them out we found that the bedroom slides took away from the open feeling given by having large windows. This also gives better air flow. But it is all subjective, what others find good may not fit your desires.

It looks like both are DPs which probably means the access to the engine is in the rear of the MH. If the bed is over the access door, it might make it more difficult (read costly) for repairs if needed. If the bed is in the slide, there is room between the bed & closet to access the engine.

Another thing to consider is what closet or cabs are accessible with the slides in.

Some beds in the slides don't have much room around them especially on one side so it's likely that someone will have to crawl or scoot to the end of the bed to get out or have to crawl over the other person. It is also challenging to get the bed made.

Both of our Class A's have had beds in the slide. Our first was a gasser which had closets & drawers opposite the bed. Our current Class A is a DP and we have 2 slides in the bedroom with a W/D & closet in the back & drawers opposite the bed in the other slide.

We enjoy the windows on either side of the bed and have enough room in the DP to get out of bed on the sides rather than on the end of the bed.

I noticed the pics are from PPL. Have you been able to actually see units with the floor plans you posted? Seeing things on "paper" is a lot different the seeing them in 3D.

Good luck with your decision! Please let us know which one wins.

We like the slide out closet as the DW is claustrophobic and it works great for us.
