Our grocer carries Hormel, I think that's the brand, but it's called dried beef. I think it's probably made from Kobe beef, at least its priced like it.

Besides fried egg sandwiches, probably one of my favorite breakfasts growing up as a kid. They quit making the chipped beef my mom used to use so I haven't had it in decades. 😞

The breakfast of Marines is SOS - S*** on a Shingle aka Chipped Beef on Toast - it's the stuff of legends and the breakfast of heroes. Mess cooks will tell you it's always made with flour, butter, whole milk or diluted canned milk, and chipped or dried beef. Sometimes sautéed onion but absolutely NO OTHER VEGETABLE IS PERMITTED.
Equal amounts of flour and butter. Cook in the pan and slowly pour in the milk to make the gravy. Add the chipped beef to warm it. Serve over slightly burnt toast (the shingle).

A little butter, brown sugar and some chopped canned peaches in the bottom of the pan. Add a tube of cinnamon rolls and bake as directed. I've modified to cook on my small Weber grill.
