New RV'ers looking for a good grill recommendation

Hi all! Picking up our 36' tiffin allegro class A on Friday. We are looking for ideas on what grill to use? We will have pretty good storage space but don't need a monster grill. Most of our camping will be 2 or 3 people.

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of propane grills particularly if you have a propane stove top in the RV; like my charcoal and wood flavour too much to give it up.

Been using the same Weber Go Anywhere for charcoal cooking for more years than I care to count:B. I can readily grill for up to 4 people on it or stretch to 6 depending on the the type of dish. Perfect lil rectangle in my life with the only disadvantage being it's harder (but not impossible) to smoke on. The trick is to wrap the unit with heavy duty foil when working with tall cuts like ribs. It uses charcoal stingily/economically as I re-discovered when cooking with my 22" Weber kettle earlier this summer. I'm going to sell the larger Weber since it really has no true use in my life and is harder to store.

Congratulations on your new Tiffen and may it serve you well!

Don't know if everybody knows but you can buy a ceramic coated cast iron grill for Weber Qs on Amazon. Almost non stick.

I didn't and thanks.

I am going to take a look at them.

The new ones already have porcelain enameled cast iron grates.

You guys keep educating me.

You are not going to believe this, but I just purchased my second Weber (Q1200,) And have not used it yet. Going to check the grill plates.

Thanks Much.

I take a small propane camping grill, ( uses the 1 lb propane bottles-so I can put it anywhere, I rarely use it), an Induction cooktop, (fast and easy) and a charcoal grill. If I want flavor, I use the charcoal grill. If I want to boil water, coffee or anything else that just needs heat-I use the induction cooktop.

Webbers are great if you got more money than you know what to do with. however. The table top grills at Lowe's are great as well. at about 1/3 the cost of a Webber. Have one we have used for many years. Store easily, uses one, 1lb propane canister.

I am careful with my money and a Weber is a perfect example of "You get what you pay for." . Not foolish at all.

If you are happy with your cheaper grill, great, just don't criticize and insult us for our choices.

Add another weber fan here. I have had mine thru 2 campers now and still works perfect. Sometimes you DO get what you pay for! If you can't spell Weber I guess you shouldn't bash them. :W

Nope. I stand by my statement. Names don't make things better. Just more expensive. Like Coleman camping equipment. Made by the same company. but the one with Coleman on it costs twice as much. Because every one knows Coleman makes the best stuff. But do they know. Coleman makes NOTHING.

And like Chevy and GMC. Same car. Different badge. but one costs more.

Chevy and GMC are both made by GM, i get that, but this isn't even the same comparison as there is not a comparable grill like the weber. Show me another tabletop grill that has a cast iron grate, aluminum construction, and true stainless burner tube. I have never seen anything equivalent in all i have seen.

I'm glad you are happy with your inexpensive grill, but if you cooked 1 time on a Weber Q, you would be changing your tune.

Having said that, I'll keep using my Weber 200 at the house and my 100 while camping.

This may not be for everyone, but I love my Camp Chef Mountain man grill. It has 3 surfaces, 1 cooks over your fire, another holds wood or charcoal under the 3rd which cooks over that. I love my morning bacon cooked over the fire. I have a small propane grill but have not used it since I bought the mountain man. I can understand some people preferring traditional grill due to convenience and set up. Just another option.

That's a good looking rig. It would make a nice addition to the Dutch Oven Cast Iron Chef's portable kitchen equipment. My son is making me a chuck box to fit on a hitch mount cargo carrier. That Mountain Man would be easily integrated into the design. Perfect for those trips to Dutch Oven Gatherings.

I have retired my Weber Q 200 to my house patio and switched to a two burner Camp Chef for the rv.

Agree its worth the money; mine is 11 years old and still cooks like new. Factory burner.

The Weber only grilled while you can swap surfaces on the CC. I can use it as a two burner stove, add the narrow one burner grill and grill and use the other burner to boil or fry and I got the Pizza Oven for Christmas which works very well. I have a big cast iron griddle I can set on it too.

sort of like my "I just bought a 2 burner stainless one at Lowe's for $100. that previous post reminds me that it appears to be identical to a $200 Cusinart except it has just a name plate where the Cusinart has a theremometer. ๐Ÿ™‚
I'll bet even money that it came off the same line in China as the Cusinart does.

I just solved my image problem. have an Olympic grill for the RV, plugs into system, use a small cylinder or an external 20 lber that had a thermometer with what I believe is the standard 3 hole mount. pulled that off and will make a "cusinart " out of my generic one

I agree with you on this to a point.

The only reason I own one is I had a $100 Amazon gift certificate to burn. I doubt I would have ever owned one if I had to pay full price. DW and I decided to splurge a little and apply the certificate towards the Q. We are happy we did.

Now that I do own one if/when it needs to be replaced I will certainly replace it with the same, at full price if necessary.

I use a Biolite wood stove - mine is their CampStove bundle. It works well for the two of us.

I use the packaged wood chips from Lowes. A little goes a long way.
