7 inch netbook question

A question about capability of very small netbook. I want to attach a 300 GB peripheral hard drive (USB connect) to an Atoah 7" netbook to back up pictures. The netbook has an SD card reader. I have not yet purchased the netbook, and don't want to unless it can be used to back up pictures. I assume there will be some way to copy/paste, or upload from the SD files to the peripheral drive. Maybe not, I don't know.

Similar netbooks list in specs "USB HDD up to 32GB" Does that mean those devices can't talk to my 300GB drive? Atoah does not put that limitation in their published specs. I don't know what to surmise from that.

Thank you for your help in my buying decision.

We travel too many places where there isn't phone service, let alone good cloud access. I'm old-fashioned, want a daily hard copy I can count on.

Thank you for the insight and suggestions. There seemed to be enough 'it might work' votes that I'll probably give it a whirl. Strollin's suggestion (portable external drives) is one I'm looking at. Higher cost and some of these devices get very mixes reviews until you get into the $500 price range.

Walmart sells the Nextbook brand tablet with Windows 10.

Flexx 8.9" $79.98 One micro USB and one standard USB port.

I bought the Flexx 10.1 recently and it works well. One problem with the USB ports is that they don't supply enough current to power a portable hard drive. I use an externally powered USB hub when I use a hard drive.

On my android devices
Samsung phones (two different models) connect to most any External USB drive using the adapter.. Or to the comptuer using a USB cable and from there to any drive using another USB cable and port

RCA.. USB not fully implemnted (only used for charging) however will blue tooth to my Samsung phone or or my 11" Netbook, and from there .. See above. (Connect to most anything).

Netbooks work like other computers, so I would think that hooking the harddrive to the 7in netbook would do the same thing as any other computer. It should see the attached harddrive as another drive in explorer, and you could then drag and drop pictures from the sd chip (which it also sees as just another drive) to the appropriate place on the attached harddrive.

And...you could use the netbook to look over and make adjustments (naming them, etc.) the pictures before you move them over, rather than do it all later when you get home.

Depending on how much the netbook will cost, it might be better for you to go with something like this: WD 1TB My Passport Wireless Portable External Hard Drive which has a built-in SD card slot so you can transfer your photos directly to the hard drive without a computer.

I have a couple 64GB Acer tablets with Android operating systems that I can connect 1TB ext hard drives to OK.

I also have a 16GB Acer netbook with Linux that connects to 1TB ext drives OK.

Also have a low priced 32GB Nextbook (Windows 10) from Walmart that connects to 1TB ext drives OK.

Most likely you can do what you want to do - but no guarantees...
