ATT/Directv

After close to 20 years as a Directv customer I am now so frustrated I am actually considering a switch to Dish. Last Thursday, we headed out for a month as camp hosts. Per my usual I grabbed the Genie and video bridge, but due stupidity I did not grab a mini Genie. Called Directv and after an hour on the phone I was finally able to get the equipment I needed ordered. That was not the worst of it though. Called Saturday, Tuesday, still no tracking number! Originally was told delivery 2 to 5 business days. Now being told 3 to 5 days order process! What? Last year before the ATT buy out we needed a new receiver. Had it the very next business day. Now it takes these idiots 5 business days to process a simple order? Cannot even get to upper managment to get an honest answer as to why it not takes a week to get an order processed. They really dont care any more, thats for sure. I guess in hind site I should just drive the 4 hours home, get what I need and drive the 4 hours back.

Update!
Well after 5 working days the idiots at Directv still could not get me a tracking number. So after cancelling my order I got in the truck, drove 7 hours to go home and get the mini Genie. Get home and my system wont fire up. So after another frustrating call to Direct and their flat out refusal to send a service tech to my location, I got busy and fixed my problem myself. So much for having a protection plan huh? Their customer service has to be nearly the worst imaginable. Thanks AT&T!!!!!

I guess for us RVers Dish has by default become the only game in town.

Got new receiver with the new account along with the wireless Genie for the back tv. I did have to send the old receiver back but they sent me a box and prepaid return label so off it went. With the new receiver, she can record 5 programs at once and bore me to death at a later date with them.

Looked into the ATT deal but was told in the store that the Direct/ATT deal was off for now because they were redoing the pricing plan. It wouldn't save a bunch of money anyway so the wife is still on the Verizon plan.

We've been with Directv since 2007 and in August I called to see if they had any promotions to reduce my monthly fee. I was given a $25 per month reduction for August and to be continuing for another 11 months. For September my month's fees are back to where they were before the discount. Called CS and nobody knows anything about the reduction and nothing available for a discount now. So I'm back to where I started in early August.

I'd sure consider switching to Dish but I have the Winegard Trav'ler for a roof dish and 2 Directv receivers. I'm not sure if the Winegard can be changed to Dish or what I would do with the 2 Directv receivers I purchased just a year ago for our new motor home.

The deal's tech installed the receivers for us and the way the front one is packed in the cabinet over the driver's seat I'm not sure I'd ever be able to change receivers myself. Boy am I glad we can now complain to AT&T.

You Winegard Trav'ler can be changed over to work with Dish (but a Dish Trav'ler cannot be switched to DirecTV). There is about $300 worth of parts and add some labor if you don't think you can do the work on the antenna yourself.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Now that's a great idea. Was there no question from them if you used the same address? No question about how/why she already had the receivers and dish? I've read that even though we've purchased the receivers they still belong to Directv and will have to be returned when the service is cancelled. Is this true and did you have any problems with them (AT&T). When I upgraded to the new H24 & HR24 receivers for my new coach nothing was said about what to do with the old style receiver I had used in my previous coach for 8 years so I still have it.

No, that's not the way it works (but that's what they want you to believe).
You get 50 set channels plus 10 of your choice for a total price of $39.99. You then have to add "packages" which include channels you want and likely channels you do not.

I know I went to the site and saw instantly you still have to buy packages. I don't know why people are falling for that

Are you saying that if there are 26 specific channels that I want that's all I pay for?

could it be because it's a holiday weekend? do you pay the shipping or do they? We've had DirecTV for many years. Sure hope we're not in for problems with AT&T!! I will switch in a heartbeat! Now DISH has the menu where you can get just the channels you want and not have to buy packages. Been thinking about changing just for that. DISH also allows you to change the service address and get local channels. We've never been able to get DirecTV to do that!

I hold no allegiance to either sat tv provider and have switched several times over the years. I switched to Dish last year since they carry a sports package currently unavailable on Directv, I do find their CS dept. a bit easier to work with and Dish chat has proven quite helpful while RVing. Truth be known, I can see very little difference between the 2 providers other than it takes an extra minute or so to get Dish network up and running when arriving to our destination.

ATT has had a bad reputation for customer service for many years.. so when they took over Directv. not a good thing.

no problems yet.. but had no issues to address.

but I order from SolidSignal for equipment. same equipment.. even the same names on the stuff.

Reminds me of that old saying going around before the Bell system was broken up: "We don't care. We don't have to."

I have asked them at least 5 times for enhancements to their Quick Tune feature, but so far, nothing, not even a response.
