We are tech. dummies. I see that the portable dome satellites for Direct TV do NOT get HD. It also says they do not get all the satellites as compared to the Slimline roof mount satellite. Does the portables get all the channels but not HD??

Ended up going with the hr24 along with the g2+. Quick tests showed it worked pretty well, even with the antenna sitting on the ground, pouring rain and a tree partially blocking the signal. Didn't even have to call customer support :)Ordered an RF remote so the cupboard door where the receiver is mounted doesn't have to be open. Waiting on some aluminum stock to build an antenna mount, seems I should have checked when I ordered the ladder mount, ladder isn't straight up and down. I'll salvage parts of it and build a custom mount since I'm reluctant to drill holes in the roof considering the amount of rain we get around here. I'll post some pictures when I get it done.

Yes. As far as I can tell, mine does.

You can get Nearly all of the DirecTV channels in SD with a dome as Nearly all of them come off the 101 satellite. However, there are some markets that do not broadcast locals on 101 and there are a few HD only channels which are also not on 101. However, in most cases, the 101 satellite (the only DirecTV satellite the dome would be picking up) is all you need.

110 and 119 have no value with my subscription, since all my SD is on 101, however they show up as an option on my King Dome control switch. Am I right to presume they are only work for DISH subscribers?

There was a time when DirecTV had programming on 110 and 119 and you could attempt a locate with one of the other DTV satellites. Now, there is nothing on 110 and 119 only had limited and mostly foreign language programming. The switch was always designed so you could swap between 110 and 119 with Dish as the 129 satellite was not in existence.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

If you want DirecTV HD and do not want a rooftop satellite antenna, look at rv4tv.com. They have a system for a portable setup that makes getting DirecTV portable HD dish set up easy. We used that set up before we installed our rooftop unit. . We occasionally carry the portable with us when we know our roof top unit will not work. We have no interest in that company, just a satisfied buyer.

Found this on Sat Guys. 2012 post, hopefully accurate.

The 101 sat is Standard Def channels, this will be all your core Directv channels. 110 does not carry programming. 119 is spanish and some local markets in SD, and some public interest channels.
99 and 103 are all core HD channels and local HD channels. And a few SD channels such as BabyFirst TV, NASA, Golden Eagle, and Free Speech TV.

110/119 are DTV birds. There may be content some would want like foreign shows. I recall a friend subscribing to Brazil stations for his wife and perhaps it was one of those birds.

If you run across an installer around town, most any of them will give you what you need. Maybe a couple of twenty spots will make them more accommodating.

Yeah, I actually got my kit from DirecTV for free. Had to throw that tripod in the trash though. Real piece of junk.

We use this sort of setup and have for years. We have 200' of cable, so when we are located under trees, etc. we can move the dish to a location where we have a clear direction to see the satellites. With the roof dish, if your RV site isn't open to the satellites, you're out of luck.

It's a lot less expensive than the roof mounted automatic dish.

We use dishpointer to get the settings for pointing the antenna.
