I can't get my local channels on directtv

When I travel east from Denver, I can't get my local channels. I think Direct TV told me it is because my locals are not on 101. Can I get a different LNB that will pick up 101 and 99 at the same time like it does when I am in Colorado? I think my locals are on 99.

Bill-Satellite is correct apparently those who are complaining should actually read the OP's question. He specifically mentioned DirecTV and wanting to get Denver locals. You can talk OTA all you want but it has nothing to do with the question. If he is far enough away to be out of the DirecTV spot beam you are not going to get Denver with the batwing. Bill's answer was correct for the question that was asked.

Since no one has mentioned it, it's probably worth noting that there's another way to get the NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS feeds on DirecTV if you don't care about the actual "local station" version of those feeds. For those who aren't aware of it, that service is called DNS (Distant Network Services) and it is used by many full-timers who aren't interested in the local news and weather which can easily be obtained from the internet. With DNS we get the NY City network channels for a cost of $15/mo.

This is not an option for folks who have a home in a city where local channels are available. It is primarily a full-timer option.

I also use DNS. I find that a lot of times I am in locations that you get nothing with OTA, or so few choices. In my home location I can only get ABC with over the air. I am not interested in PBS. So we always set up the sat when we stop. Only takes a few minutes.

We have DirecTV in our home. When we go out on the road I call DirecTV and tell them to suspend service on the three home receivers. At the same time I have them un-suspend the two receivers in the TV. I also tell them the address where we are so they can give us the locals in that area. This past summer we were volunteers at a state park in another part of the state. We had all the local Dallas channels on DTV even though we could get them on our OTA antenna. If we went home for a few days I notified DTV so they would un-suspend the home receivers and suspend those in the RV. While it sounds complicated, it really was not and it worked well except for the one time we came home and the local Dallas stations on our home receivers! Seems as though the DTV contact person had forgotten to change the service address back to the home.

Where I am set up for the winter you will get nada, zero, nothing OTA. Only good the antenna is for is maybe roof decoration. They have cable here but I choose to bring my dish. Change my service address and get the local locals. Broncos playing and the locals don't show it I get to spend the afternoon at the local pub that has the NFL ticket.

OP asked about 'local channels' which to me would be them non-cable/satellite only channels.....NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX.
Local Channels that can be received via OTA

Course with a handle like 'Bill.Satellite' one should not be surprised about NO to OTA and YES to satellite.

Just saying........

I agree with Roy. Dumped satellite and upgraded batwing two years ago and haven't missed any local news since.

Roy loves to come in here and post off topic information about OTA reception. I don't know if one of the satellite providers really made him mad and it's it GOAL to TELL EVERYONE that OTA programming is available for free. The reality is that very little of the programming AVAILABLE via satellite or cable is AVAILABLE via OTA. Everyone has their own priority and you need to chose limited programming for free or nearly unlimited programming that you must pay for.

I disagree Bill. The OP never said he couldn't get the regular satellite programming he paid for, only the local channels which are usually available with an OTA antenna easier than messing around and calling the sat provider each time you move. And maybe more importantly is the fact that the OTA signal is Hi Def while the sat most likely is not.

A good back-up plan is to use your OTA BATWING antenna and pick up the NATIONAL BROADCAST system from the local towns near where you are located.

These stations CBS-NBC-ABC-FOX-PBF are transmitting in full high def HDTV mode and FREE to the public.

Goto to your TV menu and select ANTENNA and then point to the local town that is transmitting the Natl BROADCAST digital signals... Be sure to push the button on the antenna wall panel.

Then log-in all of the digital HDTV signals. We usually get 6-36 digital stations just about everywhere we go.

Always need a back-up...

Hopefully, you understand you can't get the Denver programming once you leave the Denver market area no matter what type of antenna you use. Each local Network market programming is spot beamed so you can get Denver when you are in Denver or Chicago when you are in Chicago (after calling to change your service location) but you would never be able to get Denver while you were in Chicago.
