My laptop has successfully (according to update history) installed the same two updates 5 times now within the last day.. I keep getting the message that these updates are available and ready for installation??? To top it off, the updates are for the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite which my laptop does not have.. I use MS 2010 Office (student edition).. I am at a loss what is going on.. the MS update symbol just appeared again for these same two updates.. any ideas??

There is another problem with these updates. I re-registered all of the Windows Update components, re-booted, and these updates are not showing up again for update. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I run Belarc Advisor and the updates are showing up as missing. The installed updates show up as successful installs on the updates list. Updating them again will probably remove them from the Belarc missing list.

It was posted on various forums that this month's Patch Tuesday had some issues. MS either has, or will be releasing some fixes for it.

The sort answer is that Microsoft screwed up ... AGAIN.

You have two choices

one: Choose non-express and turn off notifications for those updates. NOTE: IF you have the affected software you will have to go to the microsoft update site later (in about a month) and re-activate those updates..

Two,, Ignore it, sooner or later Microsoft will un-screw it.

if you google that problem you'll see that many, including me, are having the same problem. the easiet way to deal with this is to:

1) check your update history and be sure that these updates have been successfully installed.

2) simply highlight the update(s), right click them and hide them.

problem solved.

Remove the updates and then reboot, then search windows update and re-install.

If it continues to do that to you then just right click the update and choose hide. It won't be offered again.

Same here. I run XP Pro. Ever since last update from Microsoft 2 days ago, I have three that repeat themselves. On Updat troubleshooting, it advises to ignore the repeated requests, do not repeat installation and hopefully soon Microsoft will send out a corrective update.

Just right click on the items on at a time and choose hide the item. It will go away and you will not be bothered to update with these updates anymore.

I agree. Go to add/remove programs and delete 2007.

Did your laptop possibly come with a trial copy of Office 2007 which you since have replaced by Office 2010? It's possible that you didn't remove the trial copy completely from the list of programs so it's trying to do an update but it can't complete it. My wife's laptop was doing roughly the same thing; it was trying to update Office 2010 when we only have Office 2007 installed.
