I am in Mexico where laptops start oit at six hundred dollars, have a Spanish Language operating system and incomprehensible keyboard.

Social Insecurity starvation budget. I can have something shipped to Chula Vista CA. Pay by VISA or WELLS FARGO bill pay or PayPal.

I get ads and see basic reconditioned laptops on sites like Woot for $350.

My failed laptop was an HP 15.6" 1.0 Ghz dual-core, 2GB RAM 2011 model.

This smartphone post is going to cost me four US Dollars.

PLEASE reply to my email and not to the forum PM as I cannot return here

Thanks In Advance!

Walmart Mexico has some fantastic deals on laptops for under 5000 pesos. With the exchange rate, now is the time to buy in Mexico.

People, the reason the phone is costing him $4 to make a post
Is the cost of the cellular data connection

I would not be surprised if he had to dial a special phone number to get a data connection, where he is, he is not going next door to Starbucks for some Wi-Fi

Send him the sale links to his email, like he ask, you can post here for us, If you want, but he needs then via email, so he doesn't have to stay online
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

MEXICOWANDERER, I have been seeing your posts for some time, and wish I had a solution for you. If you have a good, cheaper, data connection better than phone, consiter VOIP, or voice service via internet. Might be a cheaper solution. Up where we are, our voice connection via internet is just a fraction of what cell phone or telephone landline costs, and free longdistance service in included.

Since he has an address in California, why not run a VPN there and VOIP at CONUS rates. Could use something like Obihai as gateway to telco for simplified calling rates to US.

And listen, cautions about international destinations of computers (potentially with restricted encryption or whatnot) has nothing to do with liking the guy. I have read many of his posts with great interest.

But we have to remember, Mexico is a different Country. There are restrictions and regs for a reason. Doesn't matter if it is intentional or accidental, skirting the laws can be the source of great...discomfort ๐Ÿ˜ž

Just using a US address for shipping and carrying across the border because vendors won't (or can't?) ship directly to your country does NOT exempt anyone from the regulations.

I don't know the specifics for Mexico, but doing it for some countries will get you a healthy fine and possibly prison time for smuggling ๐Ÿ˜‰

Make sure you know the regs and restrictions for your situation. Sure wouldn't want to see you get jacked up- especially over a few hundred bucks!

Good luck.

If you have a CA shipping address, this should fit your needs:

Asus 15.6" laptop $250 free shipping to US

Sending to email as well.
Single empty-nester in Middle TN, sometimes with a friend or grandchild on board

I am a fan of the Dell auction. Mostly business lease returns I believe.
Have bought a couple through them with great results.

This AM, bought an E6420 laptop, win7 ( which I wanted) $215, plus tax and $17 to ship (255 OTD)

Could be an idea, for your need

Have you looked at Newegg? I don't know about shipping, but they have a bunch of laptops / chromebooks / notebooks for under $200. I am not a fan of "refurbished", so even if you take those out of the search you have a large selection. I have bought a lot of stuff from Newegg over the years, and have been very satisfied.

Edit: after reading your post above, I don't know if this will help. Good luck!

First post only cost me $1.81 worth of pesos
Yes it is me and not some freakin' Nigerian with 60 teeth showing
Each ATTEMPT at posting costs me a phone call
19 out of 20 attempts results in

WEB PAGE NOT AVAILABLE

Phone call after phone call after phone call...just to make a post.

I am willing to TRUST an RVnet member who may have a good laptop they don't want or need. The specs of my too slow original are in my original posting. Payment would be in the form of a WELLS FARGI CHECK. To be cashed first then computer sent. Pretty scammy huh?

Noted in OP. I have a California ship to address.

Mexico forbids connecting to USA Wal-Mart site.

My vision is bad and I need at least a 15" model. The microwave TelMex internet here sends data in clumls of packets and my old laptop spent all of it's time banging away on the hard drive. Loading was measured by sundial. Reread the OP specs.

I certainly DO appreciate the help. I need to SAVE MONEY TO BUY A LAPTOP and not burn up another fifty dollars on pre-paid cellular. Carlos Slim the owner of TelMex and TeCel did not become the #2 richest man in the world by being generous or even ethical.

$400 for a laptop is impossible for me, which must include taxes and shipping. It's a trip thousands of miles long to go get the laptop which would include medicines, doctors, passport renewal.

BTW "Has anyone ever heard of this guy? Sounds much more intelligent than belittling a post outright. I never asked for personal info. I ASSSSSSSUMED you would look at my personal data before running off at the keyboard. This uses up most of Feb's TelCel budget and I thank you again!

HP has a cheap computer called The Stream. It has windows 8.1, a small ssd, 2 gig of ram, usb 3.0 ports, an hdmi port, and costs about $200. It is basic but it would work for him.

Isn't Mex an American living in Mexico? - I seem to remember reading a story from him about being a radar tech for Uncle Sam back in the day.

Mexico is a NATO ally and a member of NAFTA. A quick hit of the all mighty goog showed nothing glaringly obvious. And besides, why should we care? ITAR compliance is between Mex and whoever he buys a computer from, not this forum.
