Temporary Cell Phone Service in Canada

We are going to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edwards Island for 4 weeks this comming summer. I have Straight Talk service and my plan doesn't offer service in Canada. I look up temporary phone service and found this "MOBAL" service at mobal.com . They offer a "pay as you use" plan which is advertised as: $23 to buy their phone, then &.99 cents per call. Is anyone using this service? Is this a good alternative? This is only my second trip into Canada and after this trip probably won't be going back for a while. But need communications. Couldn't find payment methods on their web page. I really don't want to give them direct access to charge my credit card before I review the bill....

I called Mobility.Petro-canada and AT&T. They both have what I'm looking for, Mobility.Petro-canada being the less expensive one. Does anyone know which service has better coverage for the area we will be traveling in? The above post got me thinking that the Canadian service might be better for me because we are going to be traveling all over the place..

Our main cell-phone is through Rogers and this past summer we spent 4 months travelling to the Maritimes and back to BC, including Quebec and Newfoundland. We had very few places the phone didn't work. Petro-Canada seems to piggy-back on the Rogers network.

Several years ago we went to Alaska and we could activate canada service with our Verizon phone. We found that we only had a cell signal around larger cities. It was not worth the cost to activate. If you are going to be in and around larger cities it might be worth it but not if traveling.

Buy an AT&T GoPhone sim. Works fine in Canada, US and Mexico. Last time I did this there was no extra charge.

$25 minimum I think.

Straight Talk International is only for calls originating from the US.and Puerto Rico. I'll check out the Mobility.petro-canada.ca
And give an update.. Thanks for the suggestion.

Try Petro-Canada Mobility (mobility.petro-canada.ca), prepaid, no contract. If you have an unlocked phone, you can just buy their sim card and put it in your phone for the duration of your trip.

I believe that straight talk plan is to call internationally, but calls must be placed from the US.
