Three Hundred Dollar SPEAKING GPS?

Me? Try to read a GPS while driving? It's would be a recipe for disaster. Especially downtown USA.

But what a shock I got when I priced a GPS with audible voiced directions.

Do they REALLY cost $200-300 dollars? Fat chance of me affording THAT.

I do not own a tablet, and I have a Mexican cellular. But I am getting weary of three hour fifteen mile drives finding medical offices with no signage name, and three quarters of downtown San Diego buildings without visible street addresses.

Someone shouting "ONE MORE BLOCK THEN TURN RIGHT!" would be a godsend.

When a friend got his first talking GPS, he set it to Spanish female. He said he had no idea where she was taking him, but she sure sounded sexy.

Airplanes have a few spoken warnings (ground prox - whoop whoop PULL UP!) and the voice is usually female - something about testosterone laden pilots paying more attention to a screaming woman - and the box is nicknamed "Bitchin' Betty". I set my Caddys GPS to British female and nicknamed her "Chastising Elizabeth".

I just ordered a Garmin Nuvicam LMTHD and should get it next week. Great deal post Christmas sale. I'd be lost without a GPSr in my Roadtrek. Have had one in all my previous trucks as well. Of course, all the newer models have voice commands and voice directions. Take your pick in accents. I'll have a Garmin Dezl 565 for sale soon. With my Roadtrek I don't need an RV-specific GPSr. I always use Allstays to find campgrounds.

I have this one - 'Garmin Nuvi 2597LMT' It has text to speech, voice activated commands, lifetime maps and Traffic updates.

I have had it in my truck for about a year and it is 1st class. Even has Bluetooth that will connect to your phone for hands free calling. Never had a problem with it. It is currently available from Best Buy for only $150

THANK YOU ALL!

Now I have something to sink my long in the tooth into. Lotsa links, and info to read. I have a month before the San Diego doctors get their grubby mitts on me.

Check out a Garmin StreetPilot 2720 on eBay. Should get one for around $50.00 or less. Use Garmin BaseCamp on your computer to plan your trip and transfer to the SP 2720. I love my SP 2720.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

I paid around $300 for my first GPS with voice.

BUT

It was a "speech to text" function.

I TELL my GPS where I want to go. No punching in letters/streets/state/city etc on a micro screen pad.

All I do is simply 'tell her' the state, the town, the road. And of course she also speaks back to me all the directions, and yells at me when I make a wrong turn. :B

Still using the same GPS I bought in 2006 wouldn't change it for the world, don't leave home without it. :C

My last two GPS's have been used ones I bought off Craigslist. They work great, are unlocked, and cost me $50 each. They do voices of course, and also do routes, which is something I wouldn't do without.

When you get to San Diego, there are many Wal Marts there, and you can pick up a Garmin there. I bought mine in the Santee Wal Mart. Plenty of parking at the mall where it is located.

Garmin has some titles after the name of the device. LTM = Lifetime map updates, and traffic conditions for USA major cities. The one that I have is also touch screen, and about 5.5" screen.

So you will get a yellow or red line for the interstates when traffic is heavy or impassable! And yes it will talk to you from $100 - $150.

Because I bought it online at Walmart.com and paid for it with a newly opened credit card account, I was given a 'first purchase bonus' saving me about $25 or $50 on the first thing I bought.

Good luck,

Fred.

My Garmin GPS talks to me in a weird version of some English? speaking dialect, and only cost me about $100 dollars last year. Free online updates, free traffic condition reporting. You do need to review the directions prior to travel, as some of the audible street names bear no relation to the local names.
Right street, marked right, just incorrect accents and sounds.
