Just got back from first trip. Questions.

Hubby & I got back from our 1st weekend trip on our Alabama Gulf Coast. We realized what more we need & what we forgot. Here are some questions after our trip:
1. After being out for 3+ hours, we came back to a not very cool TT. We left it on AC low cool. Evidently the power went off as our surge protector had an error code & digital clock blinking. We unplugged power & restarted after surge protector reset; however the AC high cool did not blow out any harder than AC low cool so we called our service dept who told us to leave it on high cool and it would slowly come back - which it did in about 5 minutes or less. He said never leave AC on low cool, always leave on high cool since we live in a humid area. Anyone dealt w/this before?
2. Before & after this problem, we had condensation appear on inside AC unit & all vents. Could this be because we had door open w/screen door in use and maybe humidity from outside air mixed with cold inside air causing condensation? Does anyone else have problems w/condensation on the inside unit/vents/windows?
3. Lastly, our gray tank filled up after just 2 showers & a couple dish washing sessions. Is that too fast? Our black tank filled up within 24 hours BUT in using our drop-in cleaner the 1st time, it said to follow the flush w/2 gallons of water. Also, hubby says we should add the water, flush (pee or poo), fill up bowl another 1/3-1/2 again & flush to make sure it cleans the bowl again. I think this is what is causing black tank to fill us so much. At that rate, we can never use a CC that has no sewer line. Thank you for replies in advance!

Our dealer told us the same about the AC. In highly humid areas it may freeze up on low. So far, ours has not done so. In the summer, I usually leave the fan on all the time, especially at night. I like the noise to drown out outside noises.

The lights for the tanks may or may not be accurate. It doesn't take much for them to not read correctly.

My black and grey tanks are both 36 gallon. We have gone longer than a week without filling the black tank and I usually put 7-8 gallons of water in before leaving home. We use our bathroom and rarely use the bathhouse at campgrounds.

The grey tank will usually last us about 36 hours. We take full showers and wash dishes. This is not really a problem unless we are at a campground without sewer connections. Then its off to the dump station with the tote.

It will take you a few trips to get a feel for everything, then you will be a pro.

By the way, why do you leave the door open when running the AC?

We were enjoying the breeze, extra light, and looking out. We have learned though. :E

Lot's of important observations in that comment. Not quite as light filled as it appears on youtube. Possible cross ventilation and seeing the scenery problems.
Good to know for anyone evaluating this model.
It also better helps me to understand the want to buy a different RV every few years.

You wrote "Not quite as light filled as it appears on youtube". I was talking about letting light inside from outside. Not sure what your reference to youtube is for? :?
I'm also confused with what "Possible cross ventilation and seeing the scenery problems" means other than we now realize to keep door shut when A/C on (live and learn - ha ha).
And lastly, "It also better helps me to understand the want to buy a different RV every few years." Sorry I am so confused but not sure what this means in regards to my question. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh I looked at your unit on youtube. I do that for most RVs since there really aren't many dealers or RV shows near me. You said you wanted extra light and breeze w/ the a/c on so I concluded that there wasn't enough. And that the window placement was best when standing not sitting.

My final comment was just an overall observation. Many posters advise purchasing the best RV you can to avoid having say a popup first, followed by a TT, followed by a 5th wheel. In essence just buy the 5th wheel first. I'm having an internal battle over purchasing an RV. I KNOW what I want: a small TT. However I'm pretty sure the man would prefer a MH or 5th wheel. Just stuff for me to think on that I occasionally say outloud, LOL.

Yes the a/c needs to stay on high. We have had that problem years ago. The fan keeps everything from frosting up. The first time that occurred to us I shut it off and after a few mins the water started running off the roof pretty fast as it was hot outside. After that episode I just leave it on high.

We don't dry camp so water is not an issue to us. As far as the black tank we do a two flush for solids too just to keep a lot of water in the tank. Never had a problem with the black tank doing that.

We use paper plates if we are dry camping and some of our favorite campgrounds have an area for dishwashing and we take advantage of it. I love an endless supply of hot water and will use campground facilites for showers if they are clean. I keep a roll of quarters in the trailer for this reason.

You cannot leave your windows or doors or vents open while you run the AC. AC was invented/created on the premise that less humidity made the air more comfortable even at higher temps. Your AC dehumidifies your air. Your air conditioner can freeze up solid if you leave openings to the outside. As ice builds up you may notice the unit being less effective.

As far as the water goes, get yourself an oxygenics body spa shower head. It puts air in the water and you get more pressure with less water. Do as others mentioned, turn on water. Get wet. Turn off water. Lather up. Turn on water. Rinse and the. Turn off water.. You will save a lot of water that way. When we had outer TT it had a 64 gallon gray tank. Three of us would fill it up in a day taking showers and doing dishes. We weren't real wasteful, we just didn't turn water off while taking shower. Our current motorhome has a 30 gallon gray tank. We can go Friday - Sunday with all three of us with the oxygenics and being mindful food we use water.

With the black tank, you want to use a good bit of water, more so with poop than pee. If you almost fill a bowl up and flush, you shouldn't need to add more to it and dump again. It's like you are going twice as often.

Want to Leave your door open to see out? We felt the same way so I put plexiglass over the screen best mod I ever did. Can now run our heat/ac with our main door open. By the way I found that mod on this forum. Happy camping

How did you determine tanks were full? Ignore the idiot lights.

Gray tank is full when shower pan won't drain.

Black tank is full when toilet won't flush.

Take navy showers.

Wash dishes in a dish pan set in the sink. Pour used dish water into toilet.

Never allow water to run when not being used. No water running while washing dishes, brushing teeth or washing hands. Only run water when filling something or rinsing something.

It really is simple, you just have to make mental adjustments to the way you are accustomed to using water.

Yes, we went by the lights. The sinks started to drain slowly at one point also. We are now educated. Thanks to everyone.

You should be able to go at least 2 weeks on that black water tank. We do 2 weeks all the time on a 28 gallon bw tank. Do you have any gray water being directed to that tank?
