A request to all cell phone users (my rant for the day)

Please when you are sitting outside of your RV talking on your cell phone to Aunt Minnie, Uncle Jed or anyone else keep the tone down to as if the person was next to you.
The lady in the site across from us could have been heard a block away today as she shouted for about an hour, and it seems more and ,more people feel they must shout on them.
I could bring you completely up to date on what that ladys entire conversation was about.
Last week a guy next to us was giving out his credit number card to someone, and I could have written it down if I wanted to.

When I get annoyed due to loud conversation with some one talking on their cell phone I just start answering their question or make comments germane to the side of conversation I can hear.

Usually they walk farther away.

LOL!!! I do the same thing.

Not only do people tend to talk loudly on cell phones, it seems speaking volume increases during most phone conversations (including on land lines) - - unless they're speaking with their secret boyfriend or girlfriend.

In a movie theater during a show or on a plane - then I agree. Otherwise I see that as the least of your worries when camping. After all you got barking dogs, wild kids, drunks, loud music, smokey campfires, people in your site, people urinating at trees, etc.

Just sit back and listen, you might get some good gossip.

The sound quality on cell phone calls is horrible which is why we still have our land line. Some people, like my wife, end up talking louder to someone who's on a cell phone at the other end.

My guess is that the caller referenced in the original post went outside to avoid disturbing people inside the camper. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree it is common for folks to yell on their cell phones. Its hard to tell which of the folks on either end of the line is having trouble hearing...could be both. Thanks for the rant I do hope folks will turn up their volumes of go inside.

A bit of technology that many are not aware of: Most decent (not entry level), hearing aids come with the Blue Tooth option. Typically it will add a few hundred dollars to the price of a mid range pair - paid $3,400 for my Siemens 2 years ago which included full Blue Tooth function.

With the Blue Tooth capability any smart phone can be mated through the Blue Tooth program and all calls will be transmitted directly to the hearing aids which dramatically improves your ability to hear clearly. In addition they came with a transmitter that I plug into our TV/DVD/Bose home entertainment system and the sound of any program is broadcast directly to the hearing aids.

Aside from the improved clarity the biggest benefit is enjoyed by my bride. Since I control the volume she can sit beside me and read a book and not hear a thing. If we are both watching/listening she controls the volume in the room and I control the volume through my hearing aids.

When I work out at the gym I listen to any of the many music apps on my I Phone through my hearing aids without headphones (which would not work for me anyway). If you or a significant other wears hearing aids check and see if they have this feature or if it can be added. If shopping for hearing aids do not buy unless they come with full Blue Tooth capability.

Thanks for the info Cap. I need new hearing aids.

Yup, that was the worst thing.
Everything else was positive. How could it not be, when I am in paradise down here in the Florida Keys.

I think I would have written it down and then asked him if that was his number. Instant lesson.

We encountered this on the beach last week, I said to my DH please can't there be any safe zones.
There was this lady on her cell, speaking Spanish at the top of her lungs.
Rather than go up by the dunes she chose to walk up and down the beach in front of everyone.
I wasn't the only one irritated, after a while a few people said something to her...she flipped them the bird, I shouldn't have called her a lady.

I too have a hearing disability (around airplanes all my life). I have found the ideal way to stop people from bothering you while next to your site is: Get a transistor radio, bring it outside, tune it to an old Southern Baptist Preacher, turn the volume up where you cannot hear the person on the phone. They will be gone in 30 seconds. Background noise will stop people with hearing imparments from carrying on their conversations. :B

Oldme brings up some valid points. As one with a severe hearing disability (gunfire will do that), I can only hope that those with perfect hearing will cut us a little slack. I don't mean to be loud but certainly there are times when inadvertently I am.... my bad. The ultimate irony for me is knowing that for years my mother lied to me.... she always told me I would go blind.

My second career was working with Adults with Developmental Disabilities.

I quickly realized that most people can not recognize any disability besides some obvious physical disability. Also most people are very intolerant of anything that is outside of their normal way of life.

Hearing loss is fast becoming one of this country's major disabilities. It also occurring earlier in life than ever before.
Many people do not realize their own loss of hearing and in many cases refuse to admit it, for various reasons.

As was posted earlier, we all need to be a little more tolerant of others. It is not always about us and I will add that none of us are perfect.
