AC fan speed

I had the camper ac on in the driveway and just happened to notice the fan shut off (compressor still running) and kick back on at the low setting. A short time later, the fan shuts off and then kicks on at the high setting. I've never seen or read anything on these units having a two stage fan that "auto select".

Usually when we use the ac, I put the fan setting on high on the thermostat since we are white noise people. Not sure if this is typical.

Voltage is at normal levels. 13.5k single dometic ac unit on a 2013 model year.

Is this normal? Nothing I can find online or in the literature.

I have 15K Dometic heat pump with the 12 button thermostat. I can have fan set on low with the AC on. Occasionally it will go into deice mode, kill the compressor and race the fan. If conditions are favorable for that behavior I set the fan to medium and it never enters the deice mode and maintains an even fan speed.

IN some cases, epically Air conditioners that are also Heat Pumps. the compressor may run in a different mode AFTER the fan shuts off... Kind of complex but frankly I do not think this would apply to roof mounted units.. But then.. I am not a professional HEVAC person.

Mine does the same thing. My fan is set on "Auto". I like it this way because when it gets cool the fan runs on low and is much quieter.

Mine does the same thing and there are lots of others on the Heartland forum noting this type of issue. What I did figure out is that if I put the fan speed on Hi and run the ac until it reaches the set temp on the thermostat, then put the fan on auto, it worked as expected cycling the fan and condensor off at the same time and coming back on as the thermostat called for it. If I turn the ac on in auto mode when I first arrive at my campsite, it will do as you stated and the fan will hunt for lo or high speed. It's puzzling. on the heartland forum it's summized as not a problem, just aggravating.

I run ours on auto quite often but if the FAN stops the compressor certainly should also. In some cases the fan may continue to run but the compressor shuts off and that's OK but If the compressor continues to run I would be on a big freeze up soon with no air going through the unit.

Is the fan on AUTOMATIC? and make and model of air conditioner please.

(TO make a comment I need the owner's manual)

I never run mine on AUTO, only high,, Several reasons including sound control, On high I rather quickly stop hearing the blower, and it covers a lot of other sounds I do not wish to hear)

Is your AC plugged into a 15 amp outlet in the garage?
