Another F150 towing questions

Hello,
My first post to the forums, I have been lurking for a few weeks. My wife and I are considering purchasing a 28ft Winnebago Minnie 2455BHS. The camper specs:

Dry: 5320 (fresh water-43, black water-25, gray-41=109x8.3lbs) or 905 FULL wet= 6225lbs
Dry Hitch: 660

My 2016 F150 Super Crew 4X4, 5.0 V8
Axle: 3.31
GVWR: 7000

Do you think I am going to push any safety limits with this combination? I realize I am going to need to increase my hitch capacity with a Reese weight and sway control hitch. We have not made the purchase so I appreciate any constructive feedback. Thanks

Umm, 385hp, 6 speeds, and 3.31s...... You do realize that truck is probably quicker with a better power to weight ratio than just about any 3/4 ton diesel truck right?

The only time it will be less than steller will be right off the line at altitude, going uphill. And the rest of the time it will sound like a well tuned muscle car.

6-spd trans with 3.31 is fine. at least 4 useable towing gears and better overall than older 4-spds with 4.10 axle.

Should be nice! remember your truck has a high revving small displacement V8. It will be happy as long as you are aware that it will rev. The 5.0 is a bit soft under 3krpm when towing. Let it rev and listen to the muscle car music coming from the engine.

Yeah think about it for a second: If all the tanks are full, where is the water from the fresh tank going to go when you use it to flush the toilet or take a shower? Where will all your... business go when you use the toilet?

The way RVs work is you start out the trip with fresh water. During the trip you use the fresh water for showering, flushing the toilet, washing dishes, where it is transferred from the fresh tank to the gray and black tanks.

Ironically you are probably not far off on your estimate of total weight of the trailer just by filling all the tanks. Full fresh water and your "stuff" generally add 1000-1500lbs of weight to the trailer.

You're probably going to end up in the 6500-7000lb range with a tongue weight of around 800lbs. That's within the safe towing capability of your truck, unless you have a cab full of 250lb linebackers, who like to go kayaking and biking while camping. All that people and equipment will add up.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

When I see "1/2-ton", "crew cab" and "bunkhouse" I have to ask - how many people are you hauling, and what's the yellow-sticker payload?

At the most you will be pulling 66 gallons of water not 109. If boondocking it would only be 43 gallons. I always travel with full fresh unless were traveling to full hookups less than 200 miles away, then I'LL take just a few gallons for roadside emergencies.


In theory I beleive you'll be fine.

I literally have the same truck...'16, crew, 5.0, 3:31 w/ tow pkg. I pull a 6,000 lb trailer with 700 hitch weight...obviously with weight distribution. Your set up should work out well.

Our truck pulls / stops / handles our trailer well. I'd bet yours will be just fine.

As MFL says, you should not be pulling with full water tanks. I usually have 5 to 8 gallons to keep it primed and for road side stops.

You are not giving much info on truck. What engine, payload number on door jam sticker, receiver hitch max weight.

You will not likely be towing with all tanks full. With fresh water full, plus trailer loaded with goods/gear to camp, it could weigh 6,500 or more. I think your truck may work, depending what size family, how much gear, added wt to truck.
