Anyone paint over the brass fixtures?

It appears a lot of mid-2000's motorhomes come with brass fixtures. Has anyone painted over them along with the metal on the shower stalls?
Or would it be easier to replace all fixtures and then just paint the stall?

I have just finished painting some light fixtures and light switch covers that were brass at home. I just cleaned the surface with warm soap and water then dried. I used Rustoleum primer and let it dry and then used Krylon paint. Turned out beautiful!

You could at least try one fixture to see how it turns out and holds up (1 can each of paint & primer is < $10.00) and if you don't like it or it doesn't hold up then you can go with replacing the fixtures! I always like to reuse/repurpose stuff if I can. Hope this helps.

Krylon spray paints have a formula for various types of surfaces. That usually turns out well. It's sold in places that have the rustoleum paints.

You should find clear finish for brass etc at Lowes etc in an aersol can.
Just clean all the tarnish off and polish....or get rid of the brass. Brass has gotten so expensive it is in vogue and it does look good if done right. Our dining room chandler was brass at the old home. The guys that ought it and remodeled it threw it out. Saw one at an antique shop just like it for 500.00 and it wasn't the fanciest ever made.

My wife hates brass.we have painted hardware in the house and last 2 RV's.Used Rustoleum hammered metal look.Once in a while we would get a chip or 2,solution? repaint,I would never attempt to paint a shower surround,to much chemical mamby jamby going on in that area.

I second that. Screams 90's...at least in the house anyway. Even if the brass was sprayed, the style is more than likely still outdated.

We used Rustoleum. That was after we found out how much hinges cost.

True this, I spent many a happy hour in my early days at sea, polishing brass.

If the brass irritates you that much, I would replace the fixtures. Chances are, the fixtures were the cheapest available to the mfg. so you would be upgrading the quality, also.

I also like brass.........nice clean shiny brass.

And YES brass can easily be painted.

Light sanding with fine-grit paper
Good cleaning/wipe down with a tact cloth
Light coat of primer...let dry then another light coat
Primer dry.......couple light coats with spray paint with dry time between coats.

I did just that 2 years ago and I haven't had a single chip. Don't use the spray paints found in your big surface stores. Go to an automotive paint store. They will add a hardener to their paint and put it under pressure in a spray can. It will cost you about $25 rather than $6 per can but it will not chip.

We have done this in the house with cheap brass fixtures. I just used Rustoleum hammered finish spray paint. Worked fine. I didn't even buff the surface - just shot it and let it dry. Works fine on fixtures. Not sure if it would hold up on stuff you touch a lot though.

makes a huge difference in how things look.

Easier in this order:

1) Leave it alone
2) Get a new motorhome
3) Replace all the fixtures
4) Paint it all and watch the paint peel over the next few years
