I haven't seen any horror stories from RV.Net members out in the eastern US, mainly Buffalo. C'mon, eh....

Rain would be a big factor causing more roof collapses, etc., but warming by itself will not make the snow any heavier. Ten pounds of snow will still weigh ten pounds when melted, ignoring any evaporation. The volume will change, but not the weight.

By the looks of the news reports, the snow is VERY DRY (light) for now! If it warms or worse warms and rains it will become very HEAVY very quickly!!

I lived there (and shoveled there) for 40 years, and believe me, lake effect snow if not light. But you are right, its going to get real heavy in a couple of days. I pity them because the flood that's coming is going to be crazy.

They're too busy trying to let the dogs out.......

And then cleaning them off after they go out.....

Is it time for your medication or mine?

There are a couple reasons you haven't heard the horror stories from Buffalo.
1. No body's RV'ing there at this time of year.
2. If they're over 16 years old, this isn't their first rodeo,
while it doesn't happen every year, it's not uncommon.
3. They've got other things to worry about, other than posting on here, like cleaning off the roofs.

Hi Gary,

That is because their doors are drifted over and they are cuddled up in bed trying to stay warm.

You can expect a major baby-boom in 9 months!! We survived the Blizzard of '78 in Massachusetts. Newlyweds(us) were snowed in for six days. Regular Army units had to come in from DC area and clear main routes. Nine months later we welcomed our brand new baby daughter into the world.

If it was easy everyone would do it (speaking for myself).

Oh, if it's any consolation, living in the desert ain't easy either.

But, if I could afford it I would live in La Jolla CA.

Hi Paul,

I do truly feel sorry for them. However, at least folks in RV's will have some limited power--and heat for as long as the propane lasts. Folks in homes that have lost power will be feeling the crunch a lot by now, and with 3 more feet of snow on the way things will not be getting better soon.

Speaking of doors filled to the top with the snow banks reminds of a few trips to Northern Maine.

Saw on facebook what one dude did with his solid snow cover when he opened his door. He installed some shelves in it and has all of his beer on ice haha...

Just imagine if the power went off as well which I'm sure has happened...
