Base Plates

Lots of good deals on tow bars on Craigslist but where is the most reasonable (Notice, I didn't say cheapest)place to buy Base Plates and supplemental Brakes?

Thanks Hank85713, I did the base plate on the Jeep we traded in, but looking at the directions from both Blue Ox and Roadmaster, I think I'll have CW do the base plate on this new C-Max. thanks again.

jsmart, I bought from them to get the low install price. Like I said the base plates were about $100 more than I could get off the net, but the install prices since I was not doing it myself were much higher. Thus the $39 install was a deal and the installation is lifetime guaranteed for whatever that is worth.

I bought my baseplate from eTrailer, top notch service, can call them with any questions you have. and if you find it cheaper after you buy it, or even before you buy, once you have your receipt they will credit the card you used to buy it.
As for the supplemental brake, I bought mine off an ad in a classified section on another rv site, easy transaction.

Did you buy the base plate from CW or did they put one on you bought from outside CW?

I got my base plates from camp world and then they installed them for $39! I think they are at around $60 now. Their price was about $100 or so more than off the net but the install prices made up for it. Most shops unless doing yourself are around $100/hr cheapest we had was $75/hr at a small rv shop. CW also installed the light kit, if you go this way make sure they include a charge wire if ya need one for the brake system.

Just bought base plates and tow bar from PPL and was pleased with the price and customer service. Ordered on a Friday and they arrived the following Tuesday.

Adventure RV has Blue Ox base plates for about $380 for most models. They also offer free shipping sometimes.

For auxiliary braking, I recommend the simple, low cost, ReadyBrake System. If you haven't bought a tow bar yet, the ReadyBrute Elite is an excellent 8,000 lb rated all-terrain aluminum tow bar that has the ReadyBrake system built into it. That combination plusa Blue Ox base plate has worked well for us for over 40,000 miles towing two different toads.

JMO, but base plates is one thing I would not want to buy used, anywhere.

They are sooo specific to a particular make, model, year. And, many of them require quite a bit of work to install, and just as much work to remove. Doesn't seem like a very good candidate IMO, for buying used. And, thats without even getting into any concerns about whether a used set may have had its strength compromised one way or another that you wouldn't be aware of.

Best place I've found to buy base plates, is Hitch Source. Most can be had for around $400, and includes free shipping. Good place to get your other towing equipment (tow bar, supplemental brakes), too. I've had nothing but good luck working with them.

Craigs List would be another option, though, for getting tow bars or supplemtal brake systems used. I wouldn't try getting base plates that way, though.

I haven't found any within 400 mile radius to fit our Frontier. They have to fit a particular vehicle is my understanding?
