Camper sightings on roads and hiways Memorial Day 2014

I have started to notice a surpising trend in camper types spotted on the roads during the holiday weekend. Hybrids ruled the roost on the roadways, while pups were in the single digits.

#1 Hybrids all years/models
#2 Trailers many ultralight, most repeated sunset trail
#3 Class A Gas, nothing extravagant
#4 Class C Gas, nothing extravagant
#5 Pups, nothing new, most were 10 to 20 year old types.

Area traveled: Northeast PA to Bayville NJ. Secondary roads, interstate travel between 2pm to 5pm on Friday, and 1to 4pm on Monday.

On the Outer Banks lots of TT's,probably FW running second, Class a's and c's bringing up the rear. I think it is more of a "who's traveling" than a regional thing. Lot's of TT's out here are being hauled by trucks with fishing rod mounts on the front.

Between St Louis and Joplin MO on I-44 yesterday I saw lots of all types. I was surprised by the number of pop ups I saw, many more than I would have thought.

Sunday coming back home I saw my first Tri-Toad. As in dually PU (too far away to see identifying logo), towing a LONG TT (maybe 28' or more) towing a 4 horse-trailer. Took him FOREVER to turn the corner.....

Traveling in New England we saw mostly travel trailers, one class A, one pop up and maybe one hybrid.

Each unit preference is based on geographic location and recreational oppurtunites. toy haulers out west, hybrids north east, big 5ths everywhere.

In Southern California I saw Class A's, TT and 5th wheels as the majority on the road. Half of the 5th wheels and TTs were toyhauler type.

Boats were a plenty. Saw many pleasure boats vs serious fishing rigs. Not one jon boat all weekend.

Well I have a 5er, and I saw more............boats.

I'm serious about the hybrids. I have never seen so many.

Mental notes, such as wow look at the trail light bantom or why the heck do they have a 17ft single axle. Cruising down the road and having that discussion with the wife. We even started playing guess the next camper type with the kids.

Sit on I-95 and you see something entirely different, or any other interstate for that matter.

It easy to see why popups are dying breed. I should have put 5th wheel at #2 and adjust the numbers.

Possibly, it may just be a local phenom.

I went west and it was all class As and big 5th wheels. I think the NE has many more campgrounds that bigger units find harder to use It is one of the reasons I rarely go up there one trip a year max.
