Camping or Glamping?

If you use your own equipment, and not “renting”, but reside in a nice, self-contained unit.....is it camping or glamping?

After listening to my wife read about “glamping”.....I discovered that we may have been “glamping” since the ‘60’s! 🙂 What say you?

If your tent is made of modern synthetics rather than animal skins.....are you “glamping”?

Where does it all end? Someone help me, I am confused! :B

From what I've read and seen, boondocking can never be glamping. Glamping is catered dinners, your sheets in the yurt turned down, and the spa in your teepee at the correct temperature. It's not necessarily the price of your RV, it's where you park your RV as well. Maybe that gated RV community that burned down in Florida might qualify.

It has to do with having so much money, you have to keep score some way other than cost, or price.

I agree that most of us say "last week we camped at xxxxxx" so I guess we're all campers. Some do it far more elegantly than others, though.....LOL!

I keep threatening to put a chandelier in our converted cargo van - then I TOO could be glamping?

I glamp, RV, camp or whatever you want to call it. I enjoy my comfort and not afraid to say it.

Im opposite of Bigredcav1 on several of his items. But, we do agree on some. I do enjoy state/federal parks far more than any RV park. Only use RV park as last resort.

Im conservative, pack a gun legally, am a pro-life christian but understand not everyone shares my views. I served 22 years in the military so we, as Americans can have the freedom to choose, freedom of religion (or none if so desired), and freedom to call it glamping or whatever you want to call it.

I could not describe our experience any better than bigred1cav did. Almost a perfect description whatever it is called. The boy scout troop down on the end of our present RV site are REALLY camping, but they are close to the bathrooms, so they did not have to dig pit toilets. Besides, KOA looks down on that practice in their campgrounds.

We just leave the house and go somewhere. I don't feel the need to label or define what I do for enjoyment. I could call it megapulating, it would still be the same for me.

Maybe HGTV should start calling people who stay at home homeys or homers or homeaholics.

Dang I thought camping was going out in the woods and come nightfall building a shelter with branches with pine needles for roof and matress and streching out in a sleeping bag by a nice small fire after having heated dinner and watched the four leged creatures come and see us.

Today I do not camp anymore we travel in absolute luxury and comfort in a 24 C that has everything we need so I gess we now are "glampers"

Howdy!

Before we started fulltiming over 12 years ago family and friends asked how we liked camping? I would simply reply “it’s not Camping, it’s RVing”. The biggest problem we run into was having to close between 30 and 50amp. The next question was how many people will that sleep? Answer was two comfortably.

Like another poster said, in casual conversation what we are doing comes out as "camping". But it doesn't really feel like "camping" in our 5th wheel with a pretend fireplace, a big TV and full hook-ups. But I don't like the term "glamping" either. Depending on the specific circumstance, we call it either our "cabin on wheels" or our "hotel room on wheels". We travel and take our accommodations with us. 🙂

I had never heard the word glamping before today and it won’t be part of my vocabulary in the future but glamping is actually what we do! We either travel with our fifth wheel RV or our motorhome. I like the luxuries of today compared to yesteryear’s camping on the hard ground.

We love people...in small doses, we love the convenience of our own washer/dryer and we prefer boondocking but stay in RV parks when necessary. We’re considerate of any neighbors we meet along the way and are not rude or demeaning to them even if we do not agree with their political stand or moral fabric.

I grew up in Wyoming and there is nothing better than sitting around a campfire, enjoying the evening skies with a good conversation going! Maybe that’s why boondocking appeals to us so much. As we’re in our early years of retirement, we’ll spend more time out there on the open roads and hopefully we’ll run into good people who share our same views. - Marianne

PS: By the way, no matter where we’re at or who I’m talking to, I always say...”we’re camped at such and such campground or such and such RV park or camped near the southern edge of the lake or we’re camped right off of such and such county road...so guess I’m camping...no matter how many amenities we have! 🙂

We always said we camped. Made it to over 40 states before kids left for college. We didn't lack for anything. Nice beds, A/C, frig, etc. Mostly stayed in private campgrounds. Call it what you want. I think kids mostly enjoyed it, but then again I didn't take a survey.

My wife had never seen the term “glamping” before today. The article, found in The Farmers Almanac, defined “glamping” as this:

One thing that is common.....there are no commonalities! As proven with some of the answers given....We are 180 degrees away from the views of some!
