Do Not Purchase an RV Extended Warranty from This Company!

Extended RV Warranties...some folks love ‘em, some hate ‘em. I have had three of them over the years and they have saved me a great deal in repairs, so I’m one of those who likes them, as long as the warranty service provider is a good company. There are some out there that are worthless.

My current extended warranty was about to expire. I purchased my last warranty contract online and saved a considerable amount of money compared to what my local RV dealer wanted for the same exact warranty, so I limited my shopping to online dealers once again. The online dealer that sold me my last warranty is no longer in business, so I had to look elsewhere.

The best quote I received online was from a company called RVWarrantyProtection.com. The owner told me that he only writes contracts through United States Warranty Corporation. United States Warranty is a reputable firm, so after some price negotiations, I agreed to his purchase price. That was two months ago. I spent the first 30 days waiting for my copy of the service contract, which never arrived. I spent the next 30 days attempting to contact RVWarrantyProtection.com’s owner Randy Floodman, but he returned none of my calls or emails. I then called United States Warranty and asked them if they had a contract on file for me. They had never heard of me, BUT, they were very familiar with Mr. Floodman. They told me that he had been banned from selling their warranty products due to questionable business practices. Since Mr. Floodman was not authorized and was unable to sell their warranty products, he clearly committed fraud when he sold me one of their contracts.

I left a final message for Mr. Floodman telling him that I intended to file a police report for fraud. He called me back the next day and gave me some lame excuses as to why he couldn’t provide me with the warranty that he allegedly sold me two months ago. He said he would “try” and issue me a refund within 1 to 2 weeks. That wasn’t good enough, so I immediately disputed the purchase with American Express.

There is a happy ending. I received a phone call from United States Warranty. They were sympathetic with my situation and offered to issue me a direct warranty for less than what Floodman had charged me, with a lower deductible. What a stand up company!

If you purchased a United States Warranty Corporation extended RV warranty through RVWarrantyProtection.com, I’m sorry to say that it is most likely worthless. I will do what I can to see that Mr. Floodman ends up in jail.

Please don’t consider this a discussion as to the pros and cons of extended RV warranties, as that has been discussed here enough. I merely wish to issue a warning about this crook to the members of this forum.

X2 on the BBB comment. I was a small local contractor and bid against some rather larger home improvement companies. They never could beat my bids, or quality of work for that matter. I lost a couple bids though because the homeowners said the larger company were members of the local Better Business Bureau and I wasn't.

I contacted the BBB office and applied to join. No problem, I could join right up for $350.00 a month! They would even give me a stickers for the windows of my truck showing I was a proud BBB member.

They didn't want to know if I was a good contractor or a rip off artist, they just wanted $350.00 a month!

I've never trusted anything from BBB myself! While a bad BBB rating could easily mean the company is one to stay away from, a good BBB rating doesn't mean the company is reputable. BBB is funded by companies. BBB will rarely show a negative report on one of its paying members unless someone sued the company and won. Just my experience!

I checked through AMBest, not known and BBB for wholesalewarranties.com in San Diego, CA. There was not one person who actually made a claim that had a 'good' rating. The 3 bad BBB were based on the lack of paying and twisting verbiage. Check it out yourself.

you are assuming that the person is paying cash for the RV warranty and have it to save/invest. in most peoples case, they are paying $40??? or whatever a month extra for it. so in 4 years you are saving up a grand total of under $2000.

Wow, glad you caught this crook in time to protest the charges with your card and put a stop to the nonsense! Thats one of the really nice things about paying wth plastic - You have some recourse, leverage in case someone tries to give you the shaft on a purchase.

Sounds a little like Mr Floodman may have been trying to stall you until it was too late to protest the charges with your card. If that had happened, it would have become much, much more difficult to get your $$ back (you may well have had to take him to court).

Had a company try that once on me, when we had once put down a deposit via credit card, and later had to back out on the deal. They canceled the deal no problem, kept saying they'd re-credit my credit card. Kept watching my account, credit never came through. Every time I'd call the company asking when the credit would come through, they'd have another lame excuse why they hadn't done the credit, putting me off a few more days. Kept saying no need for me to protest the chrages.

It became very obvious what they were trying to do (stall until too late to protest the charges). Finally, after almost 2 months (and just days before the 60 day cutoff for protesting charges on our card), I told them to never mind, I'll just protest the charge and solve it that way. Problem solved, got all the $$ back.

Anyway, as tempting as it is to tell you what I think of service contracts, I'll honor your wish and not do that. I'm just glad you were smart enough to avoid being taken with this. 🙂

Your post highlights an important point. Virtually all extended service contracts are sold through brokers, as was yours. Sorry you had this bad experience. IMO it is better to stay with a well-known broker, like Good Sam or wholesalewarranties.com
