Drunk driver wrecked my truck tonight - pics

I consider myself to be quite defensive when it comes to driving, always watching out, looking at other vehicles, preparing for any bonehead thing they may do....

But you know, sometimes some clown does something right into the path of your vehicle and there is not a blinkin thing you can do except brace for impact.

I was just about to enter an intersection on a green light tonight when a driver in a 2001 Mazda sedan had stopped to wait for me. Then he suddenly booted it and turned left, right in front of my truck.

Cars in the other lane, there wasn't a thing I could do except slam on the brakes and brace for impact.

I got out and walked over to see if he was ok. Shaken and dazed, he was alright. He opened his door and the car reeked of booze. And so did he. :M:M:M

My truck clobbered his car so hard that it spun a full 360 and crashed into a car stopped at the light.

I'm not a happy camper right now. I have been very diligent at taking care of my truck, being careful not to scratch it and so on. For a 6 year old truck it was in beautiful shape, even though it is a work truck.

But nobody was injured, that's the main thing. Tomorrow will tell if there is anything there. My neck is a bit sore on the right as is my right wrist.

Sighhhhhhhhh.............

Now look at it - I hope it isn't totaled. I would mutter a four letter word now, but can't post it. Use your imagination... :(:(

Well, finally!! I got my truck back today, all shiny and fixed! :):)

The shop did a fantastic job on the repairs and I am very happy with the job they did. It looks awesome!!

5 weeks of driving that noisy horrid smelling flatdeck and I'm back behind the wheel of my own truck. What a difference in comfort from a commercial grade truck to mine. Falling into my drivers seat was such a treat! I forgot how comfy those seats are.

Here's a few pics:

In looking back at your pics, which I should of payed attention to before I posted :S it looks like you don't have the access plate like my Dodge does. All I see on your gate is 3 bolts. Now I wonder how you can get inside the gate if one of the latch rods breaks.

Waiting for the "new truck" pics :B

The plastic bezel on the outside pops out to access the mechanism. When the 3 screws are removed, the latch handle assembly is loose for removal, or to service the rods. The latch itself in each side of the tailgate unbolts as well. Then you have to fish everything out the latch handle hole.

When they do the tailgate, ask them to remove the plate that covers the access to the lock hardware if your tailgate has it,and spray it separately. If you ever need to open it to fix a broken latch rod you will be glad they did.Seen a few that have the whole inside of tailgate sprayed as one,and it takes a chisel to get it out,and even more work getting the screws out.
When they did mine, they covered the hole with plastic, which was still there when I had to repair the plastic clip for the latch rod.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate that. It may be too late for me. I am working out of town and only saw this just now. I'm not sure but the rhino may be done by now. I am told that the truck will be ready this coming week. I'll call and see on Monday morning.

To those of you that have problems seeing my pictures, you are not alone. I host my own website on a home internet connection and there are a lot of folks who have issues seeing pics.

When I get some time I am going to upgrade my connection to one suitable for running a website. My current connection actually doesn't allow it but I am using it with a port redirect.... blah blah etc.

Anyhow, many times my IP number shows up on blocked lists so if you have any kind of AV software that is attached to blocked lists, my pics won't show up for you.

I have a static IP address and part of the problem is that somewhere, sometime, my various IP addresses may have once belonged to a banned site. So on it goes. A bit complicated, yes.

Seems that the OP's pictures take a while to show up, could not see the progress pictures at first then they were there.

The shop loos like they have their act together! Great deal getting a Rhino lining rather than paint in the bed!

Looks like you will have a good truck when done.

Thanks for all the positive comments on the Rhino.
I went in there this morning and told them to do the inside of the tailgate too. They said it was already part of the plan.

Had Rhino put in our new Chev D/A in March 2004 and it still looks like new almost 9 years later after constant very hard use. Fabulous product to say the least! I had it put over the top of the box sides and over the top of the tailgate also and would sure do it again. Nothing on the bed ever slides around or makes gouges with Rhino like it does with the other liners.

You'll really like the Rhino! When my F250 was new, I had them pull the useless factory drop-in cover and apply liner. It still looks like new after 10 years!

You'll love the Rhino liner over paint any day. You can get it under or over side rails, over might be better for what you use the truck for though. Glad to see it almost road worthy again. Been a long time.
