Dual Fuel or Wireless Remote Generator?

Looking at a 3400-watt dual fuel champion generator or a 3100-watt gas only, but with wireless remote. The 3100 is $60 cheaper. Which would you get?

I'm leaning toward duel fuel. We tow with an SUV, so wouldn't have a good place for an extra gas can. Buuuttt...the wireless remote is very enticing.

X2 on the Stromberg-Carlson genny rack that mounts behind/above the propane tanks. I would go with Champion dual fuel model. Gas sitting in carbs is a problem waiting to happen.

I mounted my dual fuel Champion on the SC rack and connected to my propane tanks.....best mod ever!!!

I'm installing a rack on the tongue of my trailer. Can't remember the name but it's available on Amazon among others.

On edit: Stromberg - Carlson. Looks like the price has gone up.

I added a rack at the back. Actually a steel cage.

Maybe room for it on the trailer tongue?

I used to store one of my generators in my RV shower, never had any issue with smells.

No, not yet. I plan to go by a store today and hopefully look at one. I saw that the 3100 is 24.4 inches tall, but I don't have the trailer accessible right now to measure the pass through. I may do that later, as well. Does it usually give off a strong gas smell if stored in the car?

The remote is sounding good now. Where do you all store the generator when traveling? We have an SUV, so it couldn't be in the car. Do they typically fit in the pass through compartment?

Unless you have a TT toyhauler, there's no TT pass-through big enough for either generator, that I know of. Have you actually looked at either of these generators in person?
With a SUV, you either carry it inside the car or the trailer.

You need to compare your pass-through door dimensions, with those of the generators.

It's a lot easier to find gas stations than propane stations when you're way out in the toolies. The remote start/stop is popular with my wife too.

Hi,

Ten PM, time to shut down the generator--except I'm in bed, and there are 4 inches of snow. Hmmm I think--I'll just use the remote.

Man, I wouldn't hesitate, the dual fuel 3400-watt in a heartbeat. Seriously, a wireless remote for a portable generator? By the time you find the remote you can have the generator started and be back in your chair.

We bought the 3400 starting/3100 running remote start gas model last week. After a few break-in cycles I connected it to the camper. It started my 15K BTU AC in eco mode without a problem at ~75ft elevation.

To us, the remote STOP is what we will love. After a long day, overnighting in a parking lot, in bed watching TV with the AC running, who wants to go outside in their pajamas to turn off the genny? I'll get up, turn off the AC, press a button and crawl back in bed.

What's the 3400's wattage rating on propane? Probably less?

It is...3060 starting watts on propane.

LP is not more cost effective.Gas has more BTU's per gallon vs. LP and is more efficient.
LP is cleaner and doesn't cause the ethanol storage issues and gumming issues that are common with all small portable gas engines.
Gas requires carrying and storing a gas can vs. LP which is already on board and maybe easier to transport.

For the record I have a built in LP genset and prefer the convenience and reliability of LP vs. gas .
However gas is more efficient and if you are able to deal with the transport issues and storage issue gas maybe the way to go.
Electric start is a bigger issue than remote start. PUlling a cord vs.electric start is the real issue.
As long as you or your DW do not need to pull a cord, starting is not a big deal.
Sure you may need to walk out to the genset to press a button or turn the key but that is not the deal breaker vs. how you plan to transport fuel and store fuel when not using the genset. Storing gasoline is a bigger issue than storing LP.

3100 gas with wireless remote
Very easy to use, gas is everywhere

That remote is very handy
Just hang it up on a hook somewhere
The range is very good
No need to go look for it
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !
