First cold weather trip... Any advice?

So here next weekend I am heading up to Red River NM. Looks like it could possibly be in the teens at night. I have the northwest edition fleetwood Prowler so it has tank heaters and all that good stuff. Is there anything else you guys suggest to save me and headaches?

Have fun, which way do you go via Taos or Las Vegas?

I'll be up to Elephant Butte this weekend, if the wind does not blow me off the lake. The water is suppose to be up and I am a carp fisherman, they always bite ๐Ÿ˜‰

The forecast is rain Sat and snow Sunday for Red River this weekend. Unfortunately Ruidoso is rain Sunday and snow Monday. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Elephant Butte should be nice enough to fish.

Put something under your stabilizer pads, like a plastic. I do use wood blocks but still plastic under that.

Bring lots of propane. Your furnace is a hog.

Leave cabinet doors open to allow warm air in around your plumbing lines.

Don't forget about an outside show, if you have one. Might be a cabinet door, could be an access panel you need to remove to allow warm air to the back side of it.

Use caution with electric heating, use it to suplement your propane heat, don't put it near your thermostat, and use it only during the day. The electric heater won't circulate the warm air and get it into cabinets and closets, where your plumbing lines may be.

I use my chains more in the mud up north than in the snow. Like you, I stay home in the snow but sometimes the mud lingers for weeks.

Cool I'll have to get an electric heater. What do you mean docking station? I have never even thought about chains I won't go if it gets hit with snow

Take your chains. I would not trust the forecast to get it right on Snow VS Rain up there. It is snowing now in Red River, I guess you are going skiing.

Keep a roof vent open an inch or so to help alleviate condensation build up. Use electric space heaters if you have power available. If it gets and stays below freezing I put a 60 watt light in the docking station bay. Make sure you have enough propane.

Have fun, we love to camp in the cold.

We always use the water from the FW Tank which avoids the possibility of freezing inlet hose. Some campgrounds charge the camper for any damage done to their water set up caused by the supply hose freezing.

Depending on the insulation of your unit, if you are worried about waterlines at night, open the doors of any cabinets that have water lines running through them. Disconnect the fresh water hose at night to prevent any problems there.
If you don't have thermal windows, crack a vent or window slightly to prevent a lot of condensation on the inside of windows or other surfaces. If hooked up to full hook-ups and depending on campground policy, use an electric heater to save propane costs....if that concerns you.

Have a great trip!
