G Rated Tires / Not Max Pressure

In another thread, we're discussing if the dealer gave me the proper valve stems for my G614s. They're certainly not the typical metal stems. The dealer is 260 miles away. So I'm fixing this thing here. I will be discussing this with them tomorrow for sure.

But if these are 100 psi rated stems, how much of an issue is it to just keep them and run 100 psi? I know I don't need the full 3750 lb. rated capacity at 110 psi. The camper originally came with E rated tires. I just wanted the G614s because the speed rating was 75 mph and I experienced a TowMax failure one trip and never want to go through that frustration again if possible.

What's the drawbacks of running these at 100 psi?

I ran GY G614's on my HR...recommended psi was 110 and 4 years later, they still looked as good as new... If I were the OP, I would replace the rubber valve stems with the metal one's. ...I wouldn't use rubber valve stems on an E or a G rated tire..I ran Michelin RIB's on another 5er and used metal valve stems in them also, at 80 psi..just a more robust valve stem over the rubber

The last time I bought new tires the tire store swapped my metal valve stems for rubber ones. I've had a slow leak ever since. The next time I get tires I'm going to go back to Metal ones. I've had the tires checked and they couldn't find the source so I'm guessing it's the rubber stems.

Heck, you shouldn't have to remove the tire from the rim. All you have to do is break the bead in the valve stem area, hold the tire sidewall down out of the way, and install the valve stem. Should be able to do 6 tires in less than an hour easy.

I had the 6 tires off my toyhauler removed, the new tires mounted and balanced for a total of $75. Not done at a fancy tire store, but a fancy tire store isn't really needed.

Okay, I've rethought this, and if the $150 includes taking the tires off the trailer, and installing the new valve stems, and includes the cost of the new metal valve stems, then it's a little more reasonable.

I have no problem with that.

Agreed. It's not a charity. And it's similar to prices I've paid.

I don't know where some of you shop but maybe where he lives the rate at a shop might be $100 a hr plus parts, that's pretty much the rate here in Vegas, $85 to $125 per hr.

For that price I hope they are balancing the tires also.

Weigh your RV axles preferably each tire. Use the weight/inflation chart mentioned above and add 5psi to what the chart says for pressure. This is from GY Tech Service when up sizing as in "E" to "G" tires.

I went from "E" to GY "G" and ran 85psi with perfect tread wear over many thousands of miles.

Well if they didn't sell the OP the tires, that is $25 a tire to replace the Valve stem about $5 each, and to mount and and hopefully balance the tires.

I don't know about that. I know tires are rated at a certain pressure and allow for pressure rise when they heat up, but I don't know about the valve stem being rated the same way. I would think that if they're rated at 100 psi, they mean 100 psi. JMO of course.

You're failing to see the problem. If you set the tires for 100psi cold, they will increase to 115-120psi on a warm day while under tow. The valve stems are still only rated for 100psi. Therefore, they are seeing pressure in excess of what they are rated for.
