Ga Slow Poking Bill

WSIA had a report, as did the Chattanoogan, and Atlanta Consitution, at different times, reports, on a Bill on the way to the Governor, to be signed.
it would fine Lingerers, in the left lane up to 1,000.00, for failing to move to the right or impeding traffic, in the left lanes.
The LEOs would have to witness it.
Awareness of the Law might persuade those, including Truckers, obstructing traffic to get in and stay in the right lanes. Some Interstates or all of them regardless, of the number, of lanes, they cause numerous accidents and near accidents and back up traffic for miles and cause the wast of millions of gallons of fuel and hot tempers. Prime examples are Interstates I75 and I24 north, of the Ga border. the Law won't affect there though.
Everyone is familiar with the Atlanta mess too.

What is camping out in the left lane? If there is a steady flow of traffic in the right lane, are you "camping" if you occupy the left for 15 or 20 miles until you get around them. Are you going to be required to pull into any spot on the right even if you are going to pass that semi 1/2 mile ahead of you? How long are you given to find a right lane hole if someone is behind you?
In many states frequent lane changes is considered "aggressive driving" a ticketable offense.
Is this another law that either won't be enforced or enforced at a whim?
A 1/2 mile ahead of you and you don't think you should be compelled to pull into the right lane?

Here's an irony for you - what difference does it make to you how fast the guy in the left lane is going, if you're obeying the law in the right lane while not passing anyone? What happens 99% percent of the time is two guy traveling below the speed limit lined up in both lanes right beside each other, both traveling the same 10mph or more below the limit speed, no one passing no one; and no one can get around them. Happens very day on my way to work.

So if everyone is going the speed limit or faster in the right two lanes, then nobody is passing and the left lane never see's any traffic. Or, that just opens it up to the privileged who can't plan to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time, or those who just need to be first.

This thread is going to be as fun as the gas station etiquette thread. Were is that popcorn smilie when needed?

I-24 is East/West highway...not North/South. BTW, more wrecks in the Chattanooga area are caused by people speeding and cell phone usage than are caused by people using left lane. What is the left lane for if not to be driven on?

From what I have seen, all that law does is keep the left lane clear for people who think they are above the law and drive way over the posted speed limit.

Javi1, you posted while I was still typing. We have the same opinion.

As long as they get the ceter lane morons out of the center lane as well. Anyone who drives in the center lane for an extended periods needs to be beat down.

It's a good law to help with traffic congestion.
But, just because it's a law doesn't mean people will comply. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Well that would be a great thing! Several states have similar laws that the left lane is for passing only. That law doesn't sound like it would keep the truckers out of the left lane. In WA. and OR if there are three lanes or more trucks, and TV pulling trailers are not allowed in the left lane.
