Does anyone know which big-box store is best to buy a champion generator? I am at Duke cancer center for a doctor's appointment this morning and headed back to the coast to get my house finished ready and pick up my travel trailer. Thought I might try to get a generator while I'm up here away from the coast. Haven't done much research but I know champion is good and better price than Honda. Probably something in the neighborhood of a 2000 Watt or maybe even a little bigger that would run the 13-5 AC. Don't want a contractors generator but a inverter thanks so much. We are headed south west into edge of Georgia so could possibly pick one up there also.

Get two of those.

Fwiw, itโ€™s not a Yamaha. One of my engineers bought one to run his camper. It wouldnโ€™t even run his microwave. A skilsaw would overload it too

Hi, using the microair is cheating LOL

Hi,

I'd buy the remote electric start unit over something I have to pull a cord on every time. So I agree with naturist.

Let's take the 2200 VA (not watts) unit up to 10,000 feet and see if it still starts the roof air.

And absolutely do not buy a 2,000 watt unit if you want to run an AC. Get one in the 3,000 class.

It amazes me that someone would make such a blanket statement. Wow. Just wow.

Everyone is different.

I bought a 2200-watt generator and a Micro-Air Easy Start. Works just fine, and cost a lot less overall than a 3000-watt generator.

Now that's a price that can't be beat! Except for their pricing, Yamaha and Honda are far ahead of the others. IMHO.

Can't tell you how many times this incorrect info gets posted on here.
it is NOT a Yamaha inverter generator. it's an AiPower WITH a Yamaha engine. it is not made by Yamaha but by a Chinese generator manufacturer. other than the engine, none of the rest of it has Yamaha parts.
here's the link to it:

I have a new about 4 months old 3500 Champion with remote start, really like the remote start. anyway it wouldn't start my Colman 8000 series A/C I believe its a 1500. nice gen though, i'm working on getting a soft start kit

My 3400 starts my 13.5k btu A/C super easy. I'm sure it would be very similar with a 15k unit. And =she= loves it. :B

Jumping in late, but I'm also looking at gennies. I really want either the Champion 3400 or 3500 with remote start; that way =she= can start it, if needs be. Not seeing many 3500's for sale, are they new? I figure that more is better, so why not go for the bigger one? Same engine... Just looking to run a single 15k A/C.

That's NOT a Yamaha genny. It has a Yamaha engine of some sort.

assuming it isn't open frame, isn't the engine the primary issue for noise?

Itโ€™s a knockoff Yami generator. Not a real Yami. Get what you pay for.
OP, go find a 3k champion if youโ€™re budget minded or used real Honda/Yamaha.
Better get a ways away from the coast.....wrong time to buy generator within about 400mi of the coast, lol.

Dunno if this applies to you, but both Lowes and Home Depot offer 10% military discount. Made a nice dent in the cost when I bought my Champion gen.

Best of luck with your home and travels.
