How to secure water fill inlets?

I just don't like having those accessible like that.

How about locking caps like locking gas caps?

Or how about a metal plate with two holes in it and a locking door? Unthread those caps; put the plate on; put the caps back on and lock the door.

Anyone ever seen any type of locking device? I wish all the RV makers would stop using this setup and put those inside of a locked compartment.

I am going to jump on with the majority here. The OP's post is paranoid. What are the odd's
I wish OP would come back and give us his rationale that leads to this level of fear, maybe he has real justification?

I'm amazed you located that locking device device. Looks like someone agrees with the OP's desire for a lock.

Do you lock your house doors? Windows? Car doors?
Why--You're just being paranoid based on your chances of having a home invasion or car theft.
Do you lockup your bicycle or camper? Pure paranoia according to you.
Smart-ass answers help nothing.

Sorry but that question was asking for it it seems to me....I still don't get the problem. There is no logic or common sense in this idea. It's a solution in search of a problem.

BTW. do any of you guys lock or chain your generator at a campground? If you do, WHY?

Day in and day out you can probably find 100 police reports across the nation about theft from auto, stolen bike, expensive stolen property. Its not paranoia to lock your doors, close your windows, secure your bike and other expensive gear. It is a common sense solution to a very real and widespread problem. Heck, I've had someone steal the L pins from my Equalizer bracket at a campground. I used to lay my WDH gear across the A frame. Now that I have been a victim of theft because I failed to lock up my gear, I lock up my gear. I am using a common sense solution to a valid and legitimate concern.

I challenge you to find even 5 reports of a stranger intentionally poisoning a single random person or family. The reason some people are mocking (I don't think I mocked) are because it is such an outlandish scenario to concern yourself with. There are FAR more likely scenarios that one should worry about before we get to locking the water tank fill opening on our camper.

I wear my seatbelt because every day thousands of people are injured or killed in car crashes. I don't wear a helmet when I sit on the toilet because I am afraid I will fall off hit my head and die. There is preparation for a legitimate concern and then there is bizarre paranoia. To me, the OP's question falls closer to paranoia than legitimacy.

Could it happen? I suppose there is a exceptionally minimal possibility. If I lived in fear of all the things that could potentially (but unlikely) occur, I would die of the stress. You could cut your finger, get a staph infection and die a week later just trying to install a locking cap on your water. More people get staph infections every year than get poisoned by a random stranger for no reason at a campground. I would be more concerned with the staph infection than the water.

Sad.

There have been several straight answers given but at the end of the day there is no 100% solution to secure RV tanks from being contaminated by some evil person.

To the OP, I've got the same fill caps as you and I've never worried about it, but my trailer is on the side of my house and not in storage. I think the only answer is a major mod and put them inside a locking door compartment which could still be pried open.

Do you really think a lock is going to prevent a home invasion!
Locks are for honest people. A determined home invader will kick in your front door in 5 seconds.
If someone really wants to contaminate your water all the locks, hatches, and caps won't save you.
If you really want to be worry, how about a syringe of whatever into your tanks. The syringe can puncture the cap with ease it will even work on pressurised connections Where does it end! Should I just give up on using water!
The is no 100% foolproof solution to stop a nut case that really wants to harm you and/or your RV.
I hope the lock on the front door is not the only thing keeping me safe.
For the record I am not lock happy and do not lock everything all the time. Does that mean I'm begging for trouble I think not.
I simply don't live in fear. I am practical and rational.
I don't fear the boogie man or the contamination an either
I have no fear of someone contaminating my tanks.

No, No, and No.

Don't lock the bike or camper either. Unless the dog is in the camper then I lock it just to keep friends from accidentally letting him out.

I do pull the keys out of my pickup though. And, I understand not everyone lives in the same area I do.

How about a little squirt of WD-40 in your water system just for laughs? Just an example.

Has someone ever done this? I've certainly never heard of it happening.

Maybe if you do something to annoy the local residents but otherwise, this is borderline paranoia.
X-10, I have Never had this problem & never heard of anyone else having it happen. :h

Having worked on the farm all my life I have to add that a little squirt of WD-40 is not going to hurt you anyway. I've gotten some in my mouth a couple of times and it doesn't taste good but, it goes right through ya.

Besides it would be diluted down by your water supply. There is probably that much oil diluted in your drinking water anyway these days.

WD-40 in made outa fish oil. Doesn't seem to hazards to me.

Myth: WD-40® contains fish oil. Fact: Consumers have told us for years that they've caught some of the biggest fish ever after protecting their fish hooks and lures with WD-40®. We believe this legend came from folks assuming the product must contain fish oil since it appears to attract fish. Sorry Charlie®, it just ain’t so.

Um, that wasn't me that said that. I just said it won't kill you. Chopper Bill said it was make from fish oil.
