How to secure water fill inlets?

I just don't like having those accessible like that.

How about locking caps like locking gas caps?

Or how about a metal plate with two holes in it and a locking door? Unthread those caps; put the plate on; put the caps back on and lock the door.

Anyone ever seen any type of locking device? I wish all the RV makers would stop using this setup and put those inside of a locked compartment.

Not sure why everyone is calling paranoid but if it lets the OP sleep better at night, why not lock his water fill if he wants? I do now...3 campers ago I was getting ready for a trip and water wouldn`t go in the inlet. After finally getting the inlet tube off, I found that it was pack with mud & sticks. So, say what you will but if people choose to lock their water fill I think that`s up to them.

Call me paranoid, but I can easily imagine some joker in a parking lot deciding to open my water filler, inserting his you-know-what and peeing into it. Just because he thinks it's funny.

So for peace of mind I replaced swapped the hardware on the outside-shower door (which locks) and that on the water filler cover (which didn't). I'm more concerned with the purity of my fresh water than with some joker turning on my outside shower.

My gravity fill water inlet is about 4 feet off the ground.

I think it is a good idea to have that protected, even if it is just behind a cheap plastic door like the outside shower. Keeps a drunk from deciding to use that as a urinal at the minimum.

Um,,,Um,,, well first of all a drunk could not stand up straight enough to aim that good. And , second, well,,, he must be a small drunk if he is going to get that in there.

Or, maybe I'm just bigger then everybody else. ๐Ÿ˜›

There's a locking cover over my gravity fill for the fresh water tank...I use a screw driver to open it since the lock is all goobered up.

What about a locking thermostat guard? Something like the pic below. It's 4"x4" inside and is 1 1/2" high. I'm sure they could break it if they really wanted to, but it does come with a 3 year warranty against breakage. :B

I really can't think of a reason why anybody would need to secure there water inlet but I have to admit I had a trailer with a locked water compartment and my new Rig did not come with one and I thought that was odd but really did not think why... I can imagine if your neighbor was po'd at you and was trying to get even for your Dog pooping on his side of the line might want to get even but if that happens you probably got more to worry about.

That said I lock my doors when I am gone and at night and have a video security system that emails me when it sees movement. Some of my friends think I am Paranoid but I think it's experience from my years in LE now retired...

Our coach has a locking door over the gravity water fill.
I hate it. I never have the key when I need it. I am seriously considering replacing the lock with a tab-turn latch. Or, perhaps, just removing the door.
Yes, I lock the truck when in town. I have a Ham radio in there that is worth several hundred dollars.
The only time the house is locked is when we will be gone for several days.
The same goes for the barn and shop.
The cap on my well casing can not be locked.
The ATV trailer and the car dolly sit in the pasture with no locks of any kind.
For a while, after reading some of the horror stories on these forums, I used safety wire on all the hair pins on my fifth wheel hitch. Then I realized that due to a slight misalignment of the rails, the pins had to be driven out with a hammer and punch, so securing them was rather silly!

How about a little squirt of WD-40 in your water system just for laughs? Just an example.

Has someone ever done this? I've certainly never heard of it happening.

Maybe if you do something to annoy the local residents but otherwise, this is borderline paranoia.
X-10, I have Never had this problem & never heard of anyone else having it happen. :h

Having worked on the farm all my life I have to add that a little squirt of WD-40 is not going to hurt you anyway. I've gotten some in my mouth a couple of times and it doesn't taste good but, it goes right through ya.

Besides it would be diluted down by your water supply. There is probably that much oil diluted in your drinking water anyway these days.

WD-40 in made outa fish oil. Doesn't seem to hazards to me.

We only use onboard water for showers and toilet. We use bottled water for drinking and cleaning dishes. We rarely use the water tank. I doubt the energy and money spent to prevent an attack to my water supply is worth it considering the minimal risk. I have never heard of someone contaminating an individual water supply.

Seriously, if someone wanted to mess with your water supply, they could simply turn off your fresh water spigot, remove the hose from the spigot, empty some water out of the hose, dump dangerous liquid into the hose, reattach to the spigot and turn the water back on. The dangerous liquid in the hose would then make its way into your city water connection and contaminate your supply.

If you are that concerned about it, perhaps camping is the wrong way to vacation. What about messing with your tow vehicle, what about removing your lug nuts from your camper? If someone really wants to mess with you, they are going to. Its exhausting trying to live in paranoia...
