Keys! Really People?

One gripe I've had since buying the new Vengeance is something I keep forgetting to bring up here on the forums. But today, I finally remembered. Let's face it. RV.net is a wonderful place to just blow off some steam about petty little things regarding our campers. But really manufacturers? Can we not get some organization with our keys?

How many keys do I have for our new Vengeance? two? four?

NO! I have eight freaking keys for all my doors and compartments. Four keys are the thick Global Link keys for the regular doors. I have a CH751, a regular door Schlage, and two other smaller keys. Doors, rear garage door, outside shower, compartments, etc. etc. etc.

This is a small gripe and I know all these doors come from different manufacturers but eight keys is getting downright silly. Tonight I'm headed to Home Depot to get some padlocks for the garage door so add a ninth key to the key rings tomorrow. :S

I bought a new Cruiser RV TT a couple of months ago and it has one key for everything. I've since added 3 padlock keys to my key ring to lock up bikes, satellite disc, spare tire, etc.

Just take a hammer and a punch and knock out all the key holes.

Then use a screwdriver to open each lock.

Problem Solved.

(P.S. this is just a joke.... Mostly,,, this what we used to do with trunk locks on our cars back in the day. And, I still know people that do it with the locks on the compartment doors of their campers. But, I really didn't expect anyone here to do that )
Back in the day, on the farm, it didn't matter what you was driving, the key was always in the ignition.

Still is,,,, most of the time. Take it out at night and hide it in the rig. Take it out in bigger towns located on highways.

We locked ourselves out of our 5th wheel one night so we knocked on the door of a nearby 5th wheel almost identical to ours. The keys were not a match. Thankfully, one of our friends had skinny enough arms to reach into a slightly open window with a wooden spoon to unlatch the emergency window.

We only have two keys for our Jayco, after matching the main door, bathroom door, and the pass through to the outdoor kitchen. Only reason we still have a 751 key is for the outdoor shower. The cyclinder was to short to swap it out.

I used them to get rid of my CH751 keys and matched the Baggage door lock key number. I thought I was really smart, sad thing I just found out is "ALL" newer DRV's use the same key number! GRRRRRRRRR

Hopefully DRV peeps aren't the type to "visit" other peeps stuff.:)

HA ya never know! After spending so much on a new rig some may need to supplement.

I have a nice set of keys as well:

1: Key to bedroom door.
2: Key to rear door.
3: Key to pass through compartments.
4: Key to generator.
5: Key to padlock on spare tire.
6: Key to padlocks on the BAL X-chocks.
7: Key to padlock for trailer wheel chain.
8: Key to hitch padlock.
9: Key to hitch lock.
10: Key to lock for one generator chain.
11: Key to lock for second generator chain.
12: Key to black storage chest.
13: Key to padlocks on the storage chest.
14: Key to strongbox.
15: Key to locking lug nuts.

At least I have a Bolt lock for the hitch receiver pin, so most stuff connected to my truck is just using a single key.

I'm down to 1 key (after having 7) check out "RV Locks and more", they will fix you up.

Did the same thing. I bought new locks instead of new cylinders to keep my dealer out of it. Even with a new latch, and all new locks, it was <$100.
