lock for the waste water valves.

I have a problem with the kids in my area opening the black and gray water shutoff valves when my trailer is parked outside my house overnight. I usually pick up my trailer the night before we leave, so we can load everything up. Sometime overnight, the little snowflakes decide it would be a hoot to open the slide valve and leave the cap on. As you can imagine, it makes a mess when I remove the cap to put on the hose.

Does anyone know of a lock that can be used on those slides?

Thanks,
Eric

Round #1.
Liberally coat the handle with a heavy (dark) grease front & back.
Gently wipe off the front of the valve which faces "out".

If round #1 didn't work, you're ready for The REAL round "Number two"!
You may wish to skip #1 for the pure enjoyment of #2..:@
Time to decide who dumps on who (whom?)..:C

Get out your throw-away latex gloves -
Repeat #1 - with a dog dropping of appropriate consistency...:E

Note:
Don't forget you did that - when it's your turn to pull the valve!

Number two is a winner!

I'd try the grease.. used to have kids using my backyard (and the neighbor behind me) as a short cut. they were jumping over a short chain link fence, so I greased up the parts that they would likely grab in order to hop over.. That stopped it cold..

Makes sure that whatever you use will not damage the plastic though.. maybe silicone grease?

The handles for the stock sewage slider valves on our motorhome's black/grey tanks have a tab sticking out of them with a hole in the tab ... as if it's intended for use to install a security cable through this hole and then wrapped around the 3" black black/grey pipes with maybe a small lock through loops on each end of the security cable. Kindof like a mini-version of the cables used to secure bikes to bike racks.

(I've never made use of these holes in these sewer valve handles, as our valves are accessible only in a locked cabinet.)

Make sure your black tank is empty but put some water in your grey tank then put the cap on so that when water hits it, it will blow off and hopefully get them wet!

Since they are not in a compartment you would have to fabricate something. In the mean time consider taking the handles off, they unscrew, and coat the rod with grease. Maybe that will slow them down a bit.

This has to be the best answer ever. Might make a mess in your yard though but I think it would be worth it.

If you lave the caps off in storage or a lot of camping areas you are guaranteed rodents and maybe birds nests. Rodents might even chew on seals or drain pipes.

How about a motion sensor connected to a light and an alarm. Call the police and fingerprint the valves, then let the police find out who they are and talk to them a bit.

I was the victim of a hit and run car accident. Very little damage was done, and I had witnesses who got the license number of the car. I called the police, and they came out to look at my vehicle. They said that since no real damage was done and no one was seriously hurt, they wouldn't bother to pursue it. I suspect you would have about as much luck trying to get them to dust your dump valve for fingerprints.

What about not bothering with the cap, and using a twist-on valve? That way, if the kids pull all three, they get wet. If they pull all but the twist-on, no harm, no foul.

As much as the thought of the electric fence and fish hooks makes me giggle, chesterb's suggestion of the clear cap and twist on valve is probably your smartest move.

I have the twist on valve on mine as I have a leaking gray water valve. In addition, my valves are in the locking basement(which unfortunately the OP does not have), so I can leave my basement locked and still can make use of a honey wagon service when needed.

First, I wonder if it really is kids. Are you sure that it is not just a valve leak?

Second, If it is the valves being opened can't you see that the handle is in a different position and be prepared for the water gushing out ?

Third, I love the loud sudden noise, or spray of water ideas but, do you really want to get the police involved on something like this ? Give the kids a permanent criminal record so that when they get older it will haunt them and cause them problems for decades to come ? All over a little prank?

Didn't any of you when you were young ever dip little girls hair into ink wells
? Steal apples from the neighbors tree ? Tip over outhouses on Halloween. Toilet paper trees or anything else like that ?

Maybe you forgot to close the valve after dumping? I always check to make sure valves are closed before removing waste cap.

Old Biscuit; My tanks set empty and dry all winter except for a bit of antifreeze down at the valve. The key here is to ENSURE you fully flush the black tank leaving no residue in the bottom. As to the grey tank there should be no solids in the tank to begin with to build up on the bottom, plus all the dish/washing machine soap will keep it nice and clean to begin with.
