LP gas concerns on our route

So, I plan to drive the ford and fiver from NC to Hersley PA then onward out west. I'd like to take a route through VA across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel into Delaware and into PA. Then from Hershey PA west through several tunnels. QUESTION, am I allowed to drive a 40"fiver thru tunnels with LP gas? Anyone know of restrictions, or limitations?

What pigman1 said. And what you had decided. You will like that route much better than the 95route.

Vehicles with propane tanks over 10 lbs capacity are prohibited from using the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) or the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895). The Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695, the Baltimore Beltway) is a convenient alternative route for crossing Baltimore's Harbor.

A bit out of the way, but a very scenic route. Will definitely be a lot less city traffic if you don't have to fight the DC and Baltimore mess. I-81 has a bunch of rolling hills, but definitely nothing that should give your rig any grief. Lot of caverns and caves along the I-81 route if you have time and are so inclined.

Wife now says she don't want to go the CBT way into Delaware. So, in order to get to Hershey PA from Myrtle Beach SC is to take I-95 north to Frederickburg VA then jump over to I-81 into Hershey thus missing the Balt/Wash Traffic plus the tunnel situation.

Any better suggestions from you the more seasoned travelers?

Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is the only one you will hit with a problem and that's just to turn it off propane before crossing. If you're going to go from DE to Hershey take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to I-97 north toward Baltimore. At Baltimore take I-695, the WEST loop around Baltimore, and you won't have to deal with the Baltimore tunnels. Once westbound out of Hershey, if the tunnels you're looking at are on the PA turnpike, there are no propane restrictions on those.

We lived in the Tidewater area for years and know that all area tunnels including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel require the propane to be turned off. Since we were locals and knew the rules, we did not stop at the inspection station. The few times we stopped in the beginning, they never checked to see if it was turned off, just asked us and they told us as long as it was turned off, we did not have to stop so we didn't. We were usually crossing the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel and it is difficult to pull back into traffic because that route is so connected. The CBBT has much less traffic and therefore easier to stop for inspection. Things might have changed since this was about 8 years ago. I believe if you are transiting the Baltimore area you cannot take propane through the tunnel downtown and have to use an alternate route.

I used Good Sam's trip planner and it warned me of the "no propane" restriction in the Boston tunnels.
