Mailing medications

DH was just diagnosed with DVT. Now needs meds for 6 months to a year.

Our situation is this. Our insurance is based in Washington state. Prescriptions have to be filled there in order to be covered. They do not provide a prescription mailing service. Our son can pick up his medication, but how can he get it to us? He is also our mailing service.

We had him send us a different medication over a month ago, it has disappeared. So no pain meds for DH back.

Did a bit of research and found that it is illegal to put meds in the mail, so obviously that shipment was probably confiscated.

Has anybody else run into this? How have you handled it?

We are in Alabama, headed to Florida tomorrow.. We do not drive our motorhome I snow, icy weather so we are stuck in the south until the spring.

Any and all thoughts/ suggestions are appreciated.

A $700 a month prescription just is not in the budget.

The govt is making more and more restrictions on narcotics. The thing is the ppl who abuse them are going to find a way to get them. It's the honest person who has a legitimate medical need for the medications that is being made to pay the price. Drs are no longer allowed to put ANY refills on anything with codeine in it. Every time I need a refill, I have to run to the dr's office, sign a paper when I get the paper prescrip, drive it to the pharmacy and pick it up. It's getting insane.

hmmm....you don't have to pick up the prescription in person? I didn't think they'd let someone else pick them up for you. And, mail them..amazing.

My meds go to my sons address and once they are all there he goes to UPS packing place and they pack (box) up everything including our mail and mail it to us in Florida. Sends it 2 day air and we have not had a problem for the last 2 months. He will be mailing again within 2 weeks. He also sends me the tracking number and I do track it. So far it has worked out. I would try UPS...

we are currently waiting for a package that was mailed from home (forwarded by our po). It should have been here by now. He's waiting at the infamous Quartzsite Arizona post office right now. Sure hope it hasn't been lost, it's diabetes medication ๐Ÿ˜ž

Our plan will fill anywhere, the pharmacist has to have it transferred to the one where we are staying. On THAT subject, I took one in 5 days ago, and they LOST IT :M

I hope you find a solution!

Update. STILL not at the Post office. Should have put a tracking number on the danged thing :M

you can mail meds just not narcotics. Our daughter mails our VA meds to us all the time. We stay put for a week or 10 days and give her the address via email. She prints the email and uses it as the label. We buy prepaid envelopes or boxes from the post office so she doesn't have to pay postage. She does have to drop off the packages in person at the post office. I don't use VA for meds. I use CVS Pharmacy. Generic prescriptions are usually cheap for 3 month supply. I refill my prescriptions online and I can select the location where I want to pick them up. I allow an extra full day for them to process the request. Never had a problem with CVS. I did have problems with Walmart transferring the prescriptions so I changed to CVS. Unfortunately CVS does not have locations in all states. I didn't choose Walgreens because they didn't sign a new contract with Tricare or ChampVA.

neveer had a problem with shipping meds.

just have him mail them in a different container. your issue is a non issue, the one time the drugs disappeared in the mail is an exception.

and, i would ***** to my medical insurance company about their limited mailing service.....

I don't know if this applies to your meds or not but the DEA has restricted many drugs to a 30 day supply on what was once a 90 day shipment. I get my prescriptions from the VA and after a surgery they sent Hydracodone (sp?) via UPS. I doubt it is illegal to send prescription drugs to one who it is prescribed for via UPS.

You can send meds if you package them up and don't TELL anyone they're meds. I agree on FedX and UPS over PO. You may not be able to get a new plan, however, you CAN talk to the doctor and the insurance company about a 6 month fill. Some drugs, by law, are not allowed to be more than 30 or 90 days. I need a new cpap nasal piece every month. The medical supplier told me they could only give me one month at a time (a pain in the butt when you're traveling).....I called the dr. and he said it was okay to get more than one month. I finally by-passed the medical supplier and talked to the insurance company personally and found out they did NOT have a problem with a 6 month supply being sent to me..... So don't just take the word of one pharmacist.

Can the medications be shipped on FedEx or UPS, maybe they don't confiscate like USPS, You would have to have a ground shipping address to have them sent to you.

I order all my medications from Canada & have been for the last 7 years. I don't even use insurance.

It is by far less expensive !!!!! :B

Doc writes me a 6-month prescription, fax it & done.

Pm me if you want more info.

Wow you must have one screwed up health care plan. Both DW and I have used mail order pharmacies for years with no problems. DW has Kaiser and I am on VA. They both actually prefer you to use mail order. We have had meds mailed to where ever we happen to be no problem.
