I tow a Scion xB with manual trans. Prior to that I towed a Ford Escort with manual trans. Most vehicles with a manual trans can be towed four down.

Answer to original question is NO. Only specific manual transmissions.

Now you are getting down to specifics.

The manual transmissiom GM uses in the Colorado, GM does consider safe to flat tow. If a Colorado is flat towable, it will be because of the choice of transfer case in a 4x4, not because of the transmission. It has been a long time since GM has used any rear drive manual gearbox they want to let you tow, back to early '90s maybe.

Is the manual transmission offered in 4x4, or are those automatic only?

The only Subaru's that can be towed 4 down are the manual trans. They can only be towed 4 down, not on a dolly.

In general, many more manual trans vehicles can be towed than can auto trans vehicles. Odds are that most manual trans can be towed, but don't play the odds...... Investigate your particular vehicle!

There's a service bulletin out on this subject that evidently covers the model/year of the truck you're looking at. At least according to The Bulletin, entitled "Guide to Dinghy towing", the only pre-2007 Colorado model that can be towed four down is the model with the "T150 transfer case". Do read that bulletin carefully as it looks like there are four/all wheel drive models that can NOT be towed four down, regardless of transmission type.

Info on light trucks begins on page three.

If it is 4WD yes manual & automatic,
2WD no manual & automatic.
If it is 2WD you would need to modify it with a drive shaft disconnect.

mAKE SURE THAT YOUR EXACT MAKE/MODEL AND TRANSMISSION ARE TOWABLE. If you forget the tranny, you may well face serious $$$$$$ repairs. Not all manual trannies can be towed 4 down, I was surprised to find out.

Toyota Echo. Our 2001 manual has over 60,000 towed miles on it. Probably some Jeeps.

It's best to check the owners manual for "recreational towing".
If no manual, then ask here about a specific model. Several of us have access to towing guides from, FMCA or Motor Home mag.
