I live in Florida. When I go inside my camper after it's been shut up a while in the summer, it's hot, but it isn't humid. I have never got the advice to leave a vent open. I wouldn't do that.

Since it's under a carport, it is in the shade. Mold/mildew grows in dark humid conditions. So run the dehumidifier and drain into the sink. Open all interior doors and maybe use damprid in the bathroom.

I have MaxAir covers over all my roof vents which are open when the RV is not in use. Anytime expect the heat of summer, I will use multiple DampRid tubs to suck the moisture out of the inside air. During winter, I'll change them out every couple of months. I also leave cabinet doors, the fridge and microwave open.

Never had any mold/mildew issues, even living in the northeast with a lot of humidity and temperature swings.

If the humidity is really high, adding ventilation may do very little to control mildew, lowering the humidity is the answer.

We have an upstairs bathroom with a window that does not open and we live in the Willamette Valley where mildew prospers handsomely (unabated, it appears in the shower overnight).

This little 14" tall baby (Ivation GDM30) is what I have and suggest. It is designed to work within 2200 cubic feet (almost equivalent to a 39' RV) and pulls about 20 ounces of water per day (86 degrees and 80% humidity) and tank capacity is 50 ounces. Want a bigger tank? Then purchase a bigger unit.

About every 10-20 days we empty the reservoir and have it on a timer; off at nighttime and on in the morning. WE HAVE ZERO MILDEW ISSUES.

And, if you want to run it at 12VDC, then eliminate the 120 VAC power adapter.

Mildew inside? You don't want to be living with that.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

I put vent covers on my rooftop vents so I can leave them open regardless of weather. (Also, I disabled the automatic closing in wet weather.) I leave both vent covers fully open when in storage. With the vent covers keeping rain out and the vents letting air circulate, I have never had a problem with mold or mildew.

For mildew you need a dehumidifier or/and run A/C. Use a good spray especially if you have the black stuff. Clean with vinegar and spray. I used Microban. When we leave our camper we run the dehumidifier at 40. NOT A HUMIDIFIEER.
