Military/DoD Are you active duty, retired or a veteran?

Most other RV forums have a specific section for military.

Pearl Harbor day seems like a good time to see who out here has a military background.

So, if you please, reply with your branch and current status:

For myself, I'm a Navy veteran and retired Navy DoD

Hubby is retired Navy and retired Navy DoD

Together we have over 70 years of military service.

Just chock it up to a unusual circumstance and not hold it as a benchmark of other veterans.

Believe me, those were the exception, not the rule. I feel sorry for Vets that act like that, as they must really be lonely. Around here, it is just the opposite, many times you will never know the person you are talking to is a Vet, as they don't advertise it and are the general population, not a clique. Sorry you had a bad experience with some lonely, lost Vets......

Like any group of people, we enjoy talking with those who have had a common experience.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread - there are often health, benefits and such issues which relate only to vets and retirees.

Yes, there are some folks who 'never left' and live near bases, shop on base, seek their medical care on base, etc.

But most of us got the travel bug early when we got to travel the globe. So an RV is a very natural choice to see the great country many of us didn't get to see when we were young.

As a group I don't see veterans separating themselves from those who did not serve. Most veterans I have known don't advertise their service, quite the opposite. This thread asked that we document our service, which was a privilege and no small measure of sacrifice, that most of us are justifiably proud of.

One of the best definitions of a veterans is...

"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America for an amount of up to and including my life."
