We were on our way up to Canyon Pt. last Tuesday cruising along Roosevelt Lake on highway 188 when we encountered a Highway Patrol unit approaching with the red/blues and headlights flashing. She was doing about 15 mph smack in the center of the two lane highway. I pulled over as far as I could and stopped on the edge of the shoulder. She pulled alongside and said there was a wide load coming. How wide? I asked... Wider than you she replied. But I'm not all that wide I told her. She laughed and said "Lug nut Rule". I said excuse me? This one has a lot more lug nuts than you so stay where you are, "they" will be along shortly and off she drove with a wicked grin on her face. Over the next five minutes ten escort vehicles, 7 of which were Highway Patrol along with 3 trucks came down the road escorting this Monster!

Not really sure just what it was or where it was headed but there are ten axles, 4 tires each BEHIND the truck doing the towing. :S

Funny how class eight tractors pull 10 - 20k lbs and more over weight loads every day, thousands of times a day. A couple years ago I had one local log hauler tell me if he didn't gross at least 100k each load he wasn't making any money. No explosions, no one killed, no accidents but try a 100lb overload on a pickup and every one within a mile of it will die! Lawsuits, funerals, and more lawsuits.

After market tag axles are very common on class 8 but if someone ever mounted a hitch helper to a pickup.... look out!

A 3/4-ton pickup has more lug nuts than my Genesis...but I'm still 28,000lbs!

South of Ely NV last October. Talk about your serious lug nuts. The police escorted us off to a side road.

I'd bet that load was a decommissioned nuclear reactor on it's way to the Idaho National Laboratory. See them once or twice a year in this area. They come from universities or private companies as "whole units". Could even have been from Hanford. They use secondary roads around metro areas, and heavy haul road whenever possible. Near Ely the roads are built for mining trucks and qualify in that regard.

Once knew a trucker who drove the biggest rig I have ever seen. She was about 5'3", and said everything was power driven. She did not have a load except her jeeps. Counted twenty-eight axles. Think what her tire bill was.

We were S/B on the Dalton Hwy when a AK State Trooper flagged us onto a side road for a wide load. For those of you that don't watch Ice Road Truckers, the Dalton can be narrow and a lot of freight goes up and down during the summer too. Anyway, the load was on TWO huge trailers, they were side by side and even the shoulders were covered by the load. How they doubled up going up some of the hills would have been fun to watch.

Also some things I don't even know what they are. I've read some bad reviews on the wind turbines. Something about how they affect the lifestock, and can affect people. Not sure what causes it. They were trying to get us farmers in the area to go for it. When you really figured the lease money it was not worth it. Anyway a neat post. That thing was really big.

I have to admit I was taken by the wind turbines saving energy and couldn't understand the people that were so adamantly against them....until......

I was staying at the Iowa State Fair Grounds CG in off season for a week. Empty CG, peaceful, great views.

Then I heard what sounded like a real low flying lear jet. Thought wow he's low. Then later I heard it again. This went on, on and off for a day or so until I found what it was, a 'wind turbine' right on the fair grounds.

So now I DO understand why people do not want them near their property. I couldn't fathom what 10 or 20 of those all in one place would sound like to any neighboring houses! Problably like the D-day invasion.:E

If you look up the road in that commercial there is something waiting for it, I think they towed it about 300 yards...

Funny! You just got to wonder how many of us RVers have a Space Shuttle in the side yard we want want to move around to the front. Like Toyota thinks that commercial will resonate with most RVers.
